M. Night Shyamalan’s romantic drama “Remain,” which also inspired Nicholas Sparks’ best-selling novel of the same name, will be released in theaters on February 5, 2027.
The film stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor. The cast also includes Ashley Walters, Julie Haggerty, Jay O. Saunders, Tracy Ifeatia, Hannah James, Caleb Luminer, Kieran Marcale, and Maria Dizia. Shyamalan and Sparks each independently wrote the screenplay and novel, based on the same original love story.
Warner Bros. chose this day to release the film because of strong advance sales for the romance film “Wuthering Heights,” which is scheduled to be released in theaters around Valentine’s Day this year. Studios believe that February, once considered a slow month for moviegoing, has become a much more favorable time to release movies. Sources say “Remain” received the highest test scores of Shyamalan’s career. That’s saying something considering his filmography includes hits like “The Sixth Sense” and “Unbreakable.”
However, “remain” faces stiff competition. Universal will release an untitled Judd Apatow comedy starring Glen Powell, and Disney will release “Ice Age: Boiling Point” on the same day. However, these films are aimed at slightly different demographics, with “Apatow” movies targeting male moviegoers and “Ice Age” appealing to family audiences. Next weekend, the historical drama “Nightingale,” starring Elle Fanning and Dakota Fanning, and an untitled K-pop project will be released. “Remain” was originally scheduled to debut in October 2026.
Shyamalan is producing the film with Ashwin Rajan through Briding Edge Pictures, along with Mark Bienstock and Sparks producing partner Teresa Park. Sparks will serve as executive producer.
