Millie Alcock and Norman Reedus join Charlie XCX’s Takashi Miike horror

Fresh off taking Sundance by storm with “The Moment,” it looks like Charlie XCX is gearing up for another high-profile film project.

Variety has learned that a new film with Japanese horror master Takashi Miike (which the magazine announced last year, in which she will star and produce) is taking shape, with additional cast and plot details revealed, and even a sales company getting involved.

Millie Alcock, who broke out in “House of the Dragon” and will soon be seen in “Supergirl,” will co-star with Charlie, as well as Masashi Kasamatsu (“Tokyo Vice”) and Kiko Mizuhara (“Ride or Die”). Norman Reedus also joined the cast.

Plot-wise, the film, written by Ross Evans and currently known as the Untitled Kyoto Project, follows three friends who gather in the Japanese city of Kyoto, but their holiday turns into a nightmare when Charlie’s character becomes possessed by a tormenting spirit. Considering that director Miike, known for “Audition” and “Killer Ichi,” is participating, we can expect a violent development.

The film is being produced by Charlie’s company Studio365 and is currently on the way to the European Film Market in Berlin, with sales handled by The Veterans and CAA Media Finance. Given the scale of this project, not to mention the immediate success that Charlie’s foray into the film world proved with “The Moment,” it’s likely to be a very high-profile package.

Aidan Zamiri’s mockumentary “The Moment” (in which Charlie played an alternate reality version of himself) became one of the most talked about films at Sundance, and the buzz quickly spread to packed theaters. A24 announced in late January that the film had become its best-selling limited release ever, with more than 50 sold-out screenings in major markets.

The new project with Miike highlights Charlie’s rapid transformation from music icon to movie star. Following her debut performance in last year’s Erupcja, she quickly followed up with 100 Nights of Hero, appeared in the horror film Sacrifice, starred in The Moment at Sundance, and co-starred with Olivia Wilde and Cooper Hoffman in Greg Akari’s I Want Your Sex.
