Well Go USA Entertainment has secured North American distribution rights to the Chinese action film Blades of the Guardians from Mandarin Motion Pictures.
Directed by renowned action choreographer Yuen Woo-ping (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) and starring producer Wu Jing (Wolf Warrior series), the film also stars Jet Li (Once Upon a Time in China), Nicholas Tse (Raging Fire), and Yoshu Yu (Creator I: A historical martial arts work directed by K-pop artist Jun (Wen) and others. A win-win for SEVENTEEN’s Junhui) and NCT.
The film is an adaptation of Xianzhe Xu’s comic book series and takes place during the Sui Dynasty in China, under the oppressive rule of Emperor Yang Guang. The story revolves around a skilled mercenary named Bi Ren who travels through the harsh deserts of the western region, completing what initially appears to be a simple escort mission, but becomes embroiled in a dangerous plot.
Peace Film Production produced the project, and Yu Baimei, Chao-pin Su, Chan Tai Lee, and Larry Yang wrote the script.
“Blades of the Guardians is an epic action blockbuster led by a legend of the genre,” said Doris Fardrescher, president and CEO of Well Go USA Entertainment. “With Yuen Woo-ping’s masterful direction and an exceptional ensemble led by Wu Jing and Jet Li, the film delivers intense action on an epic scale. The film celebrates the martial arts film, a genre that has long been central to Welgo’s identity and connection with global audiences.”
The movie is scheduled to be released during the Lunar New Year holiday on February 17th.
