NFL fans got their first look at Travis Scott from Christopher Nolan’s Greek epic The Odyssey in a new TV spot that aired during FOX’s Sunday broadcast of the NFL AFC Championship matchup between the New England Patriots and Denver Broncos.
In the teaser, Scott stands on a table and demands the attention of a group of soldiers, including Telemachus, played by Tom Holland, and Menelaus, played by Jon Bernthal. A clip of the 10-time Grammy nominee’s debut scene quickly went viral on social media.
Universal declined Variety’s request for comment.
This isn’t the first collaboration between Scott and Nolan. Scott recorded the track “The Plan” for Nolan’s 2020 sci-fi thriller Tenet.
“His voice was the final piece of a year-long puzzle,” Nolan told GQ as part of a 2020 profile of Scott. “His insight into the musical and narrative mechanics that[composer]Ludwig Göransson and I were building was immediate, insightful, and profound.”
The Odyssey is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated movies in recent memory. Matt Damon plays the Greek hero Odysseus, and the all-star cast includes Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Bernthal, Benny Safdie, and Elliot Page.
“The Odyssey” is the first narrative film to be shot entirely with Imax cameras. This feat was previously impossible because IMAX cameras were so loud that scenes of intimate dialogue were prohibited. However, thanks to a new film case called “airship”, the noise was significantly reduced.
“The airship system is a game changer,” Nolan told Empire Magazine. “You can shoot your feet in the face (whispering) and get a usable sound. What that opens up is an intimate performance moment in the most beautiful format in the world.”
