Trevor Noah is making his way into the world of sports late at night.
The former “Daily Show” host and comic will host the World Cup Watch Party via YouTube, produced by his Day Zero Production Studio in association with Religion of Sports and Mainstay Entertainment.
“The only thing better than watching every World Cup game is watching it with your best friends, new friends, and opponents who chose to root for the wrong team,” Noah said in a statement. “No suits, no formal analysis, just passionate fans watching the greatest show on earth. Ole!”
This live watch party is the latest in a parade of new “alternative casts” forming around major live sports events. Amazon Prime Video, ESPN, and Warner Bros. Discovery have all experimented with shows like this, where athletes, comedians, and influencers talk about live game action as well as non-traditional topics.
Noah will stream his experiences and reactions from over 25 World Cup matches, interweaving reactions from friends, athletes, and creators. The format is designed to be an interactive viewing concept, and YouTube has offered “Watch Parties” in the past.
CAA’s Media and Entertainment Partnerships team and Sports Religion are seeking brand partners to join.
“Partnering with Trevor on this live series felt like a natural extension of what we do,” Gotham Chopra, co-founder of Religion of Sports, said in a statement. “This is an opportunity for Religion of Sports to bring our storytelling to a live format and be a part of defining moments in sports culture, while also creating a space for brands to feature in a way that feels authentic to the experience.”
