Cesar Award winner Nadia Tereszkiewicz (The Crime is Mine, Forever Young) has been cast as the lead in acclaimed director Rémi Arié’s feature debut, Souvreine.

Allier won a Cesar Award for his 2017 short story “Little Hands,” which was later shortlisted for an Oscar. His debut novel is about an intensely bonded mother and daughter caught up in eco-terrorism within a group of radical activists driven by a conspiracy. After sabotaging a wind turbine, the mother is arrested and loses custody, and the girl is left with her aunt, who exposes her to a different worldview. Torn between two women, the girl remains deeply influenced by her mother’s belief that a vast elite conspiracy threatens society.

Produced by Lionel Massol and Pauline Seigland (Ghost Trail) and Benoît Laurent (Wrong Men), Souverene is scheduled to film later this year.

Brittany-based Film Grand Huit is also preparing the next film, Disorder, directed by Giacomo Abruzzese. The director’s 2023 debut film “Disco Boy” premiered in competition in Berlin and won the Silver Bear Award for Outstanding Artistic Contribution. This Italian-language film, co-produced with Italy’s Dugong, is set in 1990s Milan, at the height of the rise of commercial television and a new ruling class. Selected by the Marché du Film’s investor circle, the project is supported by Italy’s MIC and the Franco-Italian Fund and is scheduled for production at the end of 2026. KMBO will handle distribution in France.

Already in the can, Grand-Huy’s The Vanishing Goat is scheduled to be released in French theaters in April, just before filming begins on Une de perdue, une de perdue.

Written, directed and starring theater luminary Marie Lemond, “Vanishing Goat” follows a breakout French director as he attempts to escape a toxic relationship. Filmed in June, Mathilde Elle’s queer romantic comedy “Une de perdue, une de perdue” depicts a bicycle trip along the Brittany coast, turning landscapes and encounters into a journey of emotional release. The cast includes stand-up comic Laura Felpin (“Banger”), singer-songwriter Pomme (“Spirit of Ecstasy”), Louise Chevillot (“Benedetta”) and Harpo Guitt (“Mother Schmuckers”).

Looking further into the future, Seigland and Massol are developing works such as “Les Reves Tempetes” with “Ghost Trail” director Jonathan Millet, “Deepfakes” by Ismaël Geoffroy Chandooutis, “Ici Repose” by Molly Kane, and “La disparition des dinosaures” courtesy of Elie Girard.

Tereszkiewicz and Millet have both been named UniFrance’s Rising Stars at the last two Unifrance Rendezvous in Paris.
