The longtime illegitimate son of legendary Queen frontman Freddie Mercury has died. She was 48 years old.
The family of the woman, who was identified only as Bibi, revealed on Thursday that she died after a long battle with cancer, the Daily Mail reported.
“(She) passed away peacefully after a long battle with chordoma, a rare spinal cancer, leaving behind two sons, ages 9 and 7,” her husband Thomas told the magazine.
Bibi, anonymously identified as ‘B’, was born to Mercury and the wife of the rocker’s friend in 1976, at the height of his career, according to author Lesley-Anne Jones’ shocking biography of the Queen rocker, Love, Freddie.
“Mr. B is now with his beloved father in the world of his dreams. His ashes have been scattered by the winds of the Alps,” Thomas said.
Bibi, who works as a doctor and lives in France, has been battling a rare cancer for most of her life. She was first diagnosed with the disease at a very young age before going into remission.
It was a “race against time” to get the book and news published before the cancer returned and Jones died.
Her father’s retrospective opened in September 2025 and offered a glimpse into the “secret life and loves of Freddie Mercury.”
For nearly half a century, this well-kept secret was known only to the late “Bohemian Rhapsody” star’s closest loved ones, including his longtime girlfriend Mary Austin, his parents and sister, the Daily Mail previously reported.
She reached out to Jones after his first book was published in 2021, and the two collaborated on a second novel because there were “some things I still needed to know” about him.
Jones developed a relationship with Bibi and paid tribute to her after her death.
“I am devastated by the loss of this woman who became my best friend. She came to me with the selfless purpose of telling the truth, defying those who had free rein for Freddie’s story for 32 years, and challenging their lies and rewriting of his life,” Jones told the outlet.
“This news is shocking to me and extremely upsetting, but it doesn’t surprise me. I always knew it was coming. It was a race against time. Despite the odds, given everything she was facing, we achieved what once seemed impossible. It was the honor of my life to be chosen by her to share Freddie’s true story,” she said.
Bibi only revealed that she was Mercury’s daughter in the book months before her death, after undergoing a DNA test to confirm that Mercury was her father, who died in 1991.
Mercury’s daughter wrote, “For 30 years I have had to build my life and family without him and accept that he will not be there to share my happy moments.” “For 30 years, while the world has been reinterpreting Mercury’s life, his music, and everything about him, I needed a father just for me and my family. How could I ever talk?”
Jones said he believed the woman’s story not because she was seeking publicity or fame, but because she hid the news for fear of losing her job.
“She never asked for money. She doesn’t want to be recognized. Neither Freddie nor her stepfather left her very wealthy. She was not provided for by Freddie’s will, but by a private legal arrangement, so no one will ever find her name listed there,” Jones said of Bibi’s revelations.
