North West started wearing adult clothes when she was still in diapers.
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s eldest daughter started making fashion headlines as a baby by wearing head-to-toe designer clothing. Now a teenager with blue hair, a diamond grill, and a bridge piercing, she traded her tutu for platform boots and bleached eyebrows.
Born in June 2013, the firstborn of these two style giants seemed destined for a life in the fashion spotlight. And the spotlight she grabbed over and over again.
Here, we take a look back at North’s complete style evolution over the years.
Balenciaga Baby (2013–2015)
North had a flair for fashion before she could even speak.
At just one year old, she attended Paris Fashion Week for the first time in September 2014, sitting front row at Givenchy wearing a custom chiffon dress co-ordinated with Kim, establishing the mother-daughter duo’s long-lasting mini-me aesthetic.
By 2015, my 2-year-old son was wearing a tiny tutu and a Balmain blazer to ballet class. According to reports at the time, the toddler’s wardrobe was estimated to be worth an eye-watering $1 million, including a custom fur coat, $300 Charlotte Olympia cat flats, and baby-sized Alexander Wang shoes.
“She’s really particular about what she wants to wear, and she’s a very girly girl,” Kardashian told Vogue of her stylish first child.
“Every day she wakes up and says ‘shoes,'” she says. “We need to negotiate with her. She needs to put on her shoes before we can change her diaper.”
Mini Style Maven (2016–2020)
At an early age, North developed a unique style that blended her father’s streetwear sensibilities with her mother’s love of luxury.
Pictured outing with her famous parents, she looked every bit the little rock star in a leopard print fur coat, Dr Martens, Thrasher T-shirt and velvet slip dress. In November 2016, she attended her father’s St. Pablo tour wearing a custom-made silver sequin Vetements dress matching Kim’s.
By December 2018, North was channeling Selena Gomez wearing the lime green outfit she wore in her “Taki Taki” music video. During the same holiday season, she sparked her first style controversy when she stepped out wearing bold red lipstick with Prada. Critics questioned whether her appearance was appropriate for her age, but Kim defended her daughter’s charming moments.
North proved she can set trends in 2019 when she wore a peach-feathered Prada top to her father’s Sunday service. A few days later, Aunt Kendall Jenner also came out wearing the same design, admitting that she bought it for her 5-year-old niece without knowing she owned the design in the first place.
“I borrow clothes from North,” Jenner said. “She’s stylish. She dresses herself.”
Perfect Cool Child (2020–2022)
As North approached the age of 10, her fashion choices became more and more sophisticated.
The joint TikTok account that North shares with Kim has become a window into her luxurious wardrobe. In December 2021, she gave fans a tour of her closet in a since-deleted clip. The shelves were crowded with Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Dior, multiple four-figure Judith Leiber crystal clutches shaped like pizza slices, Cinderella’s carriage, and strawberry donuts.
Even adult celebrities took inspiration from this tween’s outfit. In August 2021, Dua Lipa wore the same cow-print Moirola dress that North wore to her seventh birthday party in Wyoming. The Instagram account “Nori’s Black Book” commented on the split photo of the two, saying, “She never had a chance.”
In July 2022, North appeared during Paris Fashion Week wearing her father’s pastel stadium jacket. This is the same one Kanye wore to the 2008 American Music Awards, which was a huge fashion moment. Blue and red styles from his defunct ’80s streetwear brand sell for up to $10,000 on the resale market.
On the same trip, she and Kim were photographed rocking matching nose rings while watching a Jean Paul Gaultier show, raising the bar for the twins’ game.
Edgy Tween (2023–2024)
North is not one to take his fashion criticism lightly.
On a November 2023 episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, the then-9-year-old ripped her mother’s custom Schiaparelli dress to the 2023 Met Gala and attacked designer Danielle Rosebery in the face.
“It looks like a Hawaiian girl with a torn dress,” North said of the piece, which features 50,000 real freshwater pearls. “I like pearls, but I don’t like how they look like they’re sold at a 100-yen store.”
In the fall of that year, North appeared on the cover of iD’s solo magazine for the first time and revealed his plans to one day own both Yeezys and Skims. What is her style icon? “myself.”
Stepping off the red carpet, she reached for comfortable staples like sweatpants, an oversized T-shirt, and baggy shorts. For the event, she traded in a tailored pantsuit and a Chanel handbag.
During a spring 2023 trip to Tokyo with her mother and siblings, she showed off both sides: long purple braids and $4,000 worth of pastel designer handbags by Prada, Olympia Le Temps and Judith Leiber.
Blue-haired rebel (2025–present)
Now 12 years old, North has officially entered the alternative era.
The tween’s most dramatic transformation came in May 2025, just before her 12th birthday, when she debuted her electric blue hair in waist-length braids.
In the months since then, she’s been out in corsets, pleated miniskirts, and 5-inch platform boots, experimenting with silhouettes that have excited the internet and sparked heated debates about what’s age-appropriate.
Kim addressed the growing criticism of North’s boundary-pushing style on her podcast, Call Her Daddy, and defended her daughter’s creative choices.
“I’m like, ‘Baby, if you want blue hair, that’s fine.'” You know, that makes her so happy. I will never take that creativity away from her,” said the mother of four.
The following week, North pushed the boundaries even further, debuting a fake face tattoo, fake septum piercing, blue contact lenses, and a black grill in a viral TikTok. When the joint account was flooded with detractors, the tween clapped back with a comment saying, “This is not an issue at all.”
By January 2026, North was showing off his new bridge piercing and black teeth in a TikTok video.
It’s a far cry from the days when she was a baby Balmain, but then again, North West was never one to stay in the style lane for long.
