The Golden Globe Awards were back on Sunday night, bringing together some of the biggest names in film and television to celebrate the past year. Ahead of the awards ceremony, stars stopped by the Variety Golden Globes Pre-Show hosted by Variety’s Marc Malkin and Angelique Jackson on Amazon Fire TV to talk about their nominations, upcoming projects and what it felt like to be a part of the night.

Here are some of the standout moments.

Elle Fanning keeps ‘Hunger Games’ details secret

Elle Fanning was cautious when asked about the new Hunger Games prequel, in which she plays a young Effie Trinket. When asked if he remained on set to catch the surprise cameos from Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson, Fanning politely evaded: “I can’t confirm that. I wasn’t there, so I didn’t see them.” But she confirmed what would happen next. She and her sister Dakota Fanning are set to begin filming “The Nightingale” in the coming months. Fanning reflected on her nominated film “Sentimental Value” and said it was especially meaningful to share this moment with the cast, praising her co-star Stellan Skarsgård, who later won Best Supporting Actor for the film, saying, “We all really love each other.”

Hudson Williams overcomes turmoil

For Hudson Williams, who broke out in Rivals, walking the Golden Globes carpet was literally a big deal. “People were yelling at me,” he joked. Just two weeks after the Season 1 finale premiered, Williams and co-star Connor Story were invited to attend as well as attend the ceremony. When asked what he thought after receiving the invitation, Williams simply replied, “Everything is so amazing right now, so I just think, ‘Oh, okay, what the hell?’

Paul Mescal looks back on Shakespeare and teases Beatles biopic

Paul Mescal, who attended the Golden Globes for the first time, admitted that the night felt surreal. “Even though I was going to drama school and making movies, I never would have imagined something like this would happen,” he said. Despite being a nominee, Mescal said he was not prepared for an acceptance speech. “I feel like it’s a very heavy burden, so I won’t give a speech,” he said. But he was happy to talk about how playing William Shakespeare has influenced his current work as he prepares to play Paul McCartney in the upcoming Beatles biopic. “They definitely inform each other,” he said. “They’re both artists who changed the world,” laughed Mescal when asked if the Beatles cast might perform at the awards show. “I think it’s leading me down the garden path…I’ll be talking about that project forever.”

‘Adolescence’ cast members remain silent amidst award talk

The cast of Adolescence humbly accepted the award, emphasizing how temporary attention is. “I might never come back here,” Owen Cooper said. “So don’t take it for granted,” said show creator Stephen Graham, adding, “The best hope is to have no expectations.” The two nominated actors and co-star Erin Doherty ended up winning the award, clearly savoring the moment after getting through the whirlwind of their first Globes experience.

Colman Domingo praises Jafar Jackson for wanting more Cowardly Lion

Colman Domingo arrived at the Globes ahead of a busy year, including “Euphoria” Season 3 and the Michael Jackson biopic “Michael.” Asked about the possibility of a Cowardly Lion spinoff from Wicked: For Good, Domingo didn’t rule it out. “I’m interested in that,” he said. “I’d like to know more about that story.” Speaking of “Euphoria,” he called the series a “movie” rather than television, praising creator Sam Levinson’s approach and giving particular praise to Jafar Jackson, who will play the role of Michael Jackson in the upcoming biopic. “He’s a revelation,” Domingo said. “People will be incredibly moved.”

Variety’s parent company PMC owns Golden Globe Award producer Dick Clark Prods. In a joint venture with Eldridge. Polymarket is the exclusive predictive market partner of the Golden Globe Awards.
