Conclave producer Juliet Howell has been appointed CEO of Lookout Point, the BBC Studios label behind Happy Valley and Gentleman Jack.
Lookout Point’s former co-CEOs Laura Lankester and Will Johnston left the company to join A24 last year.
Mr Howell, who co-founded and co-led House Productions with Tessa Ross, will bring his own development plans from House and merge them with Lookout Point’s pipeline, creating what BBC Studios calls a “super-rich drama label”. Through her work with House, she has developed a track record of navigating both the UK domestic and international markets.
Ross will continue as sole CEO of House Productions, which BBC Studios has supported since its launch in 2016 and added to the label’s roster in 2021. House has previously produced acclaimed projects including Iron Claw, Bird, the 2024 Oscar and BAFTA winning Conclave, the BAFTA winning series Sherwood, the Emmy nominated Brexit: The Uncivil War, The Good Mothers, Life After Life and the upcoming Mint.
Lookout Point’s work includes “Happy Valley,” “Gentleman Jack,” “A Suitable Boy” and “Pride and Prejudice” for Netflix. Louise Mutter will continue to work with Mr. Howell as Managing Director of Lookout Point.
“Juliet’s appointment reflects not only the creative strength of the programs we produce, but also the people who make them,” said Zai Bennett, Chief Executive and Chief Creative Officer, BBC Studio Productions. “By placing one of our most dynamic leaders in this role, we ensure that Lookout Point continues to fearlessly and creatively venture into the future. We are also pleased that Tessa, a true force in the competitive scriptwriting market, will continue to lead House Productions.”
Director Howell said: “I’m thrilled to be joining Lookout Point’s impressive production of this exciting project from the house. I can’t wait to work with the incredible team that will shape the next generation of hits and continue championing the bold and unique storytelling that has always excited me. Lookout Point has a great tradition and a drive for ideas that resonate with audiences. It’s a great opportunity to step into this role and I’m so excited for the next chapter.”
Ms Ross added: “I’m so proud of the work Juliette, the team and I have done together in the House over the last 10 years. I have no doubt that she will be a huge success at Lookout Point and I wish her all the best and happiness.”
