Last year, German box office revenue rose 9% to 864 million euros ($1.01 billion), and attendance rose 4.5% to 84.6 million euros, according to Comscore.
By comparison, the box office revenue in 2024 was 793 million euros and 80.9 million admissions, and in 2023 the box office revenue was 859 million euros and 87.2 million tickets sold. Box office revenue in 2024 is down 7.8% from the previous year.
German films will have a 24.8% share of the BO market in 2025, accounting for 27% of admissions, the highest in recent years. One of the local films, the comedy western Das Kanu des Manitu, attracted more than 5 million viewers and was ranked number one overall for the year in Germany. Another domestic film, “School for Magical Animals 4,” also entered the top 10 with 2.9 million viewers.
“The Manitou Canoe,” directed by Konstantin, grossed 50.9 million euros in 2025. The film, which is a sequel to the hit Manitou Shoes, is directed, co-written and produced by Michael “Bree” Herbig, who also stars in the film.
In second place was Disney’s Avatar: Fire and Ashes, which earned 44 million euros in 2025.
In third place was “A Minecraft Movie,” released by Warner Bros., with a box office revenue of 35.5 million euros.
Disney’s “Lilo & Stitch” and “Zoomania 2” followed with 31.8 million euros and 31.6 million euros, respectively.
In 6th place was Universal’s Jurassic World: Rebirth with 29.3 million euros, and in 7th place was Leonine’s 24.7 million euros.
8th place went to “Mission: Impossible: The Final Reckoning” released by Sony/Paramount with 17.8 million euros.
Disney’s “Mufasa: The Lion King” came in ninth place with 16.7 million euros, while Warner Bros.’ “The Conjuring: The Last Rites” came in 10th place with 15.3 million euros.
