“Anaconda” is on track to reach box office milestones.
Sony’s adventure comedy starring Jack Black and Paul Rudd has grossed more than $100 million at the worldwide box office. As of Friday, the film had grossed $101.6 million at the global box office, including $50.4 million domestically and $51.2 million internationally.
“Anaconda” earned $1.2 million from 3,075 locations on Friday and is expected to reach $4.6 million in its third weekend, bringing its domestic total to $53.7 million through Sunday. The film was released on Christmas Day last year.
“Anaconda” is a reinterpretation of the classic 1997 snake horror film starring Jennifer Lopez, Owen Wilson, Ice Cube, Jon Voight, Eric Stoltz, and Jonathan Hyde. In this “not-reboot” movie, Black and Ladd play Doug and Grif, two best friends who have always dreamed of remaking their most favorite movies. The official synopsis reads: “Suffering a midlife crisis and finally making the decision, they head deep into the Amazon to begin filming. But things get real when a real giant anaconda shows up and turns a comically chaotic movie set into a dangerous situation.”
Tom Gormican, director of “The Unbearable Weight of Great Talent” and writer of “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F,” co-wrote the screenplay with Kevin Etten and directed the new “Anaconda” movie. In addition to Black and Ladd, the adventure comedy film also stars Steve Zahn, Thandiwe Newton, Daniela Melchior, and Selton Mello. Producers include Brad Fuller and Andrew Form under their Fully Formed Entertainment production banner, as well as Etten and Gormican.
