Anok Yai developed sepsis shortly after undergoing lung surgery and underwent a “difficult life-saving surgery,” Page Six exclusively revealed.
Sources said the 28-year-old supermodel was rushed to the hospital on Sunday and was treated for sepsis.
According to the Sepsis Alliance, sepsis is a life-threatening emergency that occurs when the body’s overreaction to an infection damages vital organs and can lead to death.
Yai is reportedly currently recovering and is expected to make a full recovery.
In mid-December, she underwent robotic lung surgery after being diagnosed with a birth defect that strains her heart and slowly destroys her lungs.
It is unclear whether the surgery caused sepsis, but this is a common complication called postoperative sepsis.
After her “successful” surgery, Yai took to Instagram to detail the “silent battle” she has been going through “over the past year.”
“What started out as asymptomatic for most of my life turned into a persistent cough, chest pain, severe vomiting of blood, and occasional difficulty breathing,” she explained, admitting that she had “chosen to get through this.”
But she soon learned that “the universe has a way of slowing you down or waking you up.”
Yai thanked Dr. Robert Serfolio and “his kind and talented team” for performing the minimally invasive thoracic surgery and “giving (her) more time.”
She also thanked Dr. Harmik Soukiasian and everyone at Beverly Hills Concierge Health for “discovering[my condition]” and gave a shoutout to the “amazing” medical staff at NYU Langone Health.
After thanking her loved ones for their support and care, she concluded, “I’m recovering for now…but I’ll be back. See you soon ❤️.”
Representatives for Yai did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
