HBO Max announced Wednesday that the award-winning “The Pit” has been confirmed for a third season, with star Noah Wyle saying the team is already working on ideas.
Season 2, which premiered Thursday, takes place over the July 4th weekend, but Wiley doesn’t think the upcoming season will include the holiday.
“Probably not,” he told me Wednesday on the red carpet of the season two premiere at the DGA Theater Complex in Los Angeles. “It may not be that far this time, but 10 months was a long time. I don’t think we need to make that leap next time.”
At the beginning of the carpet, showrunner R. Scott Gemmill joked that next season would take place on Halloween, and at least I thought he was joking.
“He’s just giving – you ask Canadians a question and they answer you. It’s unbelievable,” Wylie said with a smile in response to Gemmill’s Halloween comments. “He has a Krampus costume that he wants to wear on set.”
“The Pit” takes place inside a Pittsburgh emergency room over 15 episodes. So far, each season has taken place over a single shift, with each episode covering one hour of that shift.
HBO and HBO Max Content Chairman and CEO Casey Bloys revealed to the audience during the Season 2 premiere that the show has been renewed for a third season.
“The Pit” earned Wiley a Golden Globe nomination for Best Television Series (Drama) and Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Series (Drama). Wiley said of the show’s success, “I don’t know how to explain it other than to say that in my life, 30 years apart, I never thought lightning would strike like this twice.” “To be invited back to all these wonderful events, with a little bit of wisdom and perspective to really understand how special and rare it is, is like the greatest gift.”
In addition to Wiley, the season 2 cast includes Patrick Ball, Katherine Ranasa, Supriya Ganesh, Fiona Dourif, Taylor Dearden, Isa Briones, Jeran Howell, Shabana Azeez, and Sepideh Moafi.
Gemmill created The Pit and executive produced the series along with John Wells, Weil, JWP’s Erin Johntow, Joe Sachs, Simran Baidwan and Michael Hissrich.
