John Mulaney postpones Minneapolis concert after ICE shooting

Comedian John Mulaney has decided to postpone his show scheduled for this weekend in Minneapolis in light of Wednesday’s shooting by ICE agents. Large-scale demonstrations have erupted in the city after ICE agents shot and killed local mother and poet Renee Nicole Good during a protest.

“What is happening in your city is heartbreaking,” Mulaney wrote on Instagram. “I would hate to postpone a show in a town that is experiencing such great hardship and sadness because I think it would be unfair to the audience.”

Mulaney is currently touring with his “Mr. Whatever” show, starting with a Jan. 15 St. Louis show before heading to Seattle, New York, followed by a rescheduled date in Minneapolis before heading to London.

“Still, when the situation is so dangerous, we are reluctant to ask thousands of people to leave their homes, gather at a venue, and then go home every night.

“Tickets for this weekend will be accepted for Friday through Sunday, April 10th, 11th, and 12th. For any questions or refunds, please contact your point of purchase or Ticketmaster.

“I’m sorry to anyone who was disappointed. I know a fun stand-up show can be a good distraction, but putting someone at risk doesn’t sit well with me,” he concluded.

“This was the right decision,” one fan responded in an Instagram post. Another protester called on Mulaney to help with the effort to get ICE out of Minneapolis, saying, “Join us all in using your massive platform to support our community in getting ICE out of our cities. When it’s safe, maybe we’ll feel safe performing here again.”

Tear gas was fired at protesters during Thursday’s demonstration against Goode’s killing, The New York Times reported. Some federal officials said the shootings were legal, but officials in Minneapolis and Minnesota called the reports “propaganda” and “garbage.” Protests in the city against the actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement authorities have been ongoing for several weeks.
