Cynthia Erivo will not be attending the 83rd Golden Globe Awards, despite being nominated for the second year in a row.
The Wicked star will be nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress, Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy in 2026, following her nomination last year for the first film. Erivo, who made history by becoming the first black woman to be nominated twice in the category, will not be attending the awards ceremony on Sunday, January 11, Variety reported.
Erivo, 38, is “hard at work” on London’s “Dracula on the West End,” which runs from February 4 to May 31, the paper said. The actress is starring in the one-woman stage version of Bram Stoker’s famous horror classic, playing 23 characters, including the vampire of the title.
“I’m scared. I really am. I’m very scared,” Erivo told Wonderland Magazine about playing 23 roles. “But I also feel this way. I don’t know if this is sadistic for me, but I’m really excited about it. It’s all nonsense and it’s insane.”

She played Celie in the 2015 revival of The Color Purple, which ultimately led her from London to the Tony Award-winning stage on Broadway, before returning to the West End in Dracula.
Since then, Erivo has been featured in several stage productions, including “Jesus Christ Superstar,” which opened in August 2025 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. Her three-night performance at the venue came during a one-year hiatus between Wicked and Wicked: For Good.
The musical film received critical acclaim, with the second film receiving a total of five nominations at this year’s Globe Awards, one more than the 2025 Golden Globe Awards.
This year, the film was nominated for Best Motion Picture and Box Office, with “No Place Like Home” and “The Girl in the Bubble” nominated for Best Original Song, and Ariana Grande and Erivo nominated for Best Supporting Female Actor in a Motion Picture.
Erivo is nominated along with Rose Byrne (If I Had Legs, I’d Kick It), Kate Hudson (Song San Bleu), Chase Infinity (One Battle After Another), Amanda Seyfried (The Testament of Ang Lee) and Emma Stone (Bugonia).
Meanwhile, Grande is nominated along with Emily Blunt (‘Smashing Machines’), Elle Fanning (‘Sentimental Value’), Inga Ebsdotter Lillias (‘Sentimental Value’), Amy Madigan (‘Weapons’) and Teyana Taylor (‘One Battle After Another’).

The 2026 nomination will be Erivo’s fifth Golden Globe nomination. She is nominated for Best Actress in a Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Made-for-TV Movie in 2022 for her role as Aretha Franklin in Genius: Aretha Franklin. In 2020, she was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture or Drama and Best Original Song for her work on Harriet and for her song “Stand Up,” which is included on the official Harriet soundtrack.
