In September’s deluxe edition of his album Play, Ed Sheeran made a shocking confession about his marital struggles with wife Cherry Seaborn.
The 13-song Thinking Out Loud hitmaker, 34, used the extra track to reveal the toll his three-year math world tour had taken on his home life.
In the song “Problems,” Sheeran sings about struggling to resolve problems in a relationship.
“The flowers in our garden are dying. When will the water dry up? Who knows? But you want to know the truth, we’re not okay,” the lyrics say. “I have a problem and I don’t know how to solve it.”
He doubled down on his troubling feelings in his song “War Games.”
“Every day we feel trapped, trying to cope with all the changes, the reality of what we’ve created,” he sings.
“There’s no one above you or below you. All I want is you. But I feel like giving you my love isn’t enough.”
“We’re inches away from moving on and moving on…either we’re in love or we’re crazy,” he continues.
In ‘Regrets’, Sheeran talks about his regrets as a parent for the time he spent away from his young daughters.
“You’re too young to understand that daddy’s coming home. Every time I leave the house, you think I’m gone forever,” he says in the song.
“I think it’s from 100 calls. It’s a good night call. Look at this tour. We have to get it done, but why not? We’ve missed out on so much, so we really have to make up for it.”
Representatives for Sheeran did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
Reports surfaced in February 2019 that the “Perfect” hitmaker had married Seaborn. The couple tied the knot in an intimate ceremony at their home in Suffolk, England, over the Christmas holidays, The Sun reported.
Sheeran later admitted that Seaborn was his wife in an interview with Charlemagne the God in July of the same year, when he spoke about Seaborn’s respect for his partner on his album No. 6 Collaborations Project.
According to People magazine, Sheeran and Seaborn first met as children and became romantically involved in 2015.
The two announced their engagement in January 2018.
“I got my fiancé just before the new year,” Sheeran posted on Instagram at the time. “We are very happy and in love. The cats are also very happy.”
The lovebirds later welcomed two daughters together. Daughter Lila Antarctica was born in August 2020, and daughter Jupiter was born in May 2022.
