The Beatles found a legendary producer.
British actor Harry Lloyd, known for his role as Viserys Targaryen in Season 1 of Game of Thrones, has been cast as George Martin in a four-part Beatles biopic directed by Sam Mendes.
Lloyd will co-star with Paul Mescal (Paul McCartney), Harrison Dickinson (John Lennon), Barry Keoghan (Ringo Starr), and Joseph Quinn (George Harrison) in Sony Pictures’ “The Beatles: A Four-Movie Event,” scheduled for release in 2028.
The casting was revealed by Martin’s son Giles Martin in a pre-recorded interview on Virgin Radio UK’s Ryan Tubridy Show later on Friday. “He’s really good. He’s very dedicated,” he said. Variety then confirmed the casting with the production side.
Martin (who passed away in 2016) was commonly referred to as the “fifth Beatle” due to his extensive involvement on each of the band’s original albums. He wrote most of the orchestral and string arrangements and also played piano and keyboards on many songs. Martin, once described as “the world’s most famous record producer,” produced 30 number one hit singles in the UK and 23 in the US during his 60-year career and won six Grammy Awards.
Alongside “Game of Thrones,” Lloyd has appeared in major shows such as “Wolf Hall” and “Legion,” playing Charles Xavier. He is set to star in the upcoming season 6 of “Slow Horses.”
The much-talked-about Beatles movie is currently in production, with Mendes directing in quick succession and the award-winning trio of writers Jez Butterworth, Peter Straughan and Jack Thorne penning the screenplay. Production will continue until the end of 2026, and Sony plans to release the four films simultaneously in April 2028.
