This beer is great.
Casamigos founders George Clooney and Rande Gerber are creating a non-alcoholic beer together as their next venture, sources tell Page Six.
The pair, who along with business partner Mike Meldman sold their tequila company to Diageo for $1 billion in 2017, heard in March that they and Meldman would be launching a new non-proof beer.
The planned non-alcoholic brand apparently has a similar origin story to Casamigos. It was created when Clooney and Gerber were neighbors in a Mexican retreat.
They are also known for their motorcycle adventures in Mexico, Spain, and other parts of the world. Casamigos is also known for hosting some of Hollywood’s most star-studded Halloween parties.
“Rande, George and Mike didn’t disappear into retirement; they took refuge in the lives they had lived,” we hear them say about their upcoming project. “In between bike trips and late-night laughs, they’ve been quietly crafting something new: non-alcoholic beer made for and by real friends, and the freedom to wake up ready for whatever comes next.”
Clooney, who was a teetotaler when he starred on Broadway, recently spoke about how he was “slammed” for losing at the awards on Tony night.
“I was very shocked,” he told the famous magazine in October. “I’m pretty much walking around drunk, you know?[My wife]Amal[Clooney]and I came home and I was just laughing. We were lying in bed and I was like, ‘Wow, I got my abstinence back overnight.'” The next day I felt sick all day. It was hysterical. He was as drunk as a high school student. Like a drunk idiot. ”
But the “Good Night and Good Luck” star reportedly barely ate a sip of sauce for six months while rehearsing and starring in the play.
“Alcohol affects your voice and your sleep, but he treated it like an athlete,” Esquire reported.
The newspaper previously reported that sales of non-alcoholic beer, wine and spirits in the United States rose 26% in the past year to more than $800 million, according to market research firm NIQ.
The non-alcoholic beer even made it to the Super Bowl. In 2023, Heineken 0.0 made history by airing an ad during the Big Game. It’s the first non-alcoholic beer to be served during the Super Bowl.
Michelob Ultra Zero was featured in Michelob Ultra ads during this year’s broadcast, which averaged a reported $8 million for a 30-second spot.
It will be interesting to see what Clooney and Gerber have in store.
