Taylor Swift donated $100,000 to a girl fighting cancer.
The pop star made the generous donation on Friday following a recent Instagram post from a support page for Laila, who is battling brain cancer. The caption of the post said that Lyla wanted Swift to be her “best friend.”
Inspired by Swift’s Elas Tour friendship bracelet and knowing how much Lyla loved Swift, another young cancer patient began selling similar beaded bracelets to raise money for Lyla and her family, who are struggling with hospital bills.
According to Lila’s GoFundMe page, she was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor when she was just 18 months old and has been in and out of the hospital ever since.
As of Friday, Swift’s donation was marked as the top donation on the page. She also left a heartwarming personal message for Lila in the “Words of Support” section.
“Sending the biggest hug to my friend Lyla! I love you, Taylor,” it read.
As fans noticed Swift’s generous donation and began sharing it on social media, many came up with the heartwarming idea to follow in her footsteps and start donating with an agreed upon amount of $13, the Grammy winner’s favorite number.
The donation page was immediately flooded with $13 donations. Apparently it’s by people who don’t know Laila personally, but are simply inspired by the musician.
Her life-changing donation came after trolls criticized Swift’s $1 billion net worth, which was named the world’s richest female musician, and after longtime friend Ruby Rose revealed that the songwriter frequently scrolled through GoFundMe “like a social media app” to make donations.
The “Lover” songstress is known for donating huge sums of money to people in need. Last year, she quietly donated $250,000 to Operation Breakthrough, an education center based in Kansas City, Missouri, ahead of the holiday season.
She also surprised fans in June at a children’s hospital in Florida by taking time to take photos and chat with each patient she met.
Instagram user Prince Durocher shared a heartwarming photo of his daughter receiving a “special visit” from the “Blank Space” songstress while she was in the hospital.
The parent thanked Swift for “taking time out of her busy schedule to share a personal experience that turned a frightening experience into an unforgettable memory that she will talk about forever.”
In one photo, Swift laughs while meeting with a young patient, and in another he poses with her while sitting in a hospital bed. She posed with family members and even signed autographs for patients.
Her most impressive gift was donating $5 million to Hurricane Milton and Helen relief efforts in October 2024.
Swift made her generous donation quietly, without posting on social media, just as she did with Lyla’s donation.
