Seoul-based format agency Something Special has signed two deals with India’s Kalman Unlimited and Mipcon to license reality series “Unforgettable Duets” and unscripted comedy “Hit and Miss Tour” for film adaptation in the subcontinent.
“Unforgettable Duet” centers on a dementia patient who rides on a so-called memory bus with his family, surrounded by personal memorabilia and favorite songs designed to evoke memories. The format culminates in a studio duet between patient and relative, and concludes with a tribute performance by a popular artist.
The comedy travelogue “Hit and Miss Tour” follows five comedians who have been friends for 20 years as they travel together and compete in daily mini-challenges. The format has recorded more than 210 matches and attracted tourist board sponsors from Türkiye and Greece. This is the highest rated program on Channel S, a subsidiary of SK Telecom, produced by Media S.
“Something Special is excited to announce this agreement with such a great company like Karman Unlimited in India,” said Jin Wu Huang, President and Executive Producer of Something Special. “We continue our mission to bring Korean formats to the world. KOCCA (Korea Creative Content Agency) has been a great partner in promoting our presence at Mipcom, and we look forward to announcing further deals we have made in the market soon.”
“Kalman Unlimited is excited to announce our first agreement with South Korea and to work with Jin and his team to bring two very different formats to India,” added Sunita Uchir, founder of Kalman Unlimited. “The incredibly heartfelt ‘Unforgettable Duet’ resonates with families across the country, and the ‘Hit and Miss Tour’ is sure to bring some much-needed laughs to our audiences.”
Hwang and executive vice president and head of content InSoon Kim founded Something Special in 2019 as Korea’s first TV format agency. The company represents the international rights of Korea’s top indie producers and broadcasters for both scripted and non-scripted programming.
Uchil, a former Zee TV International executive, started Karman Unlimited to focus on global co-production, content licensing and formats.
