Diane Keaton was honored on “Saturday Night Live” hours after her death at the age of 79.
At the end of Saturday’s episode of the NBC sketch comedy show, a tribute card flashed on screen.
Keaton’s name appeared above a black and white photo of her as a young girl.
Wearing her signature collared shirt and tie, the beloved actress was pictured flashing a cheeky grin as she looked off to the side.
The episode’s host and “SNL” alum Amy Poehler also gave a subtle nod to Keaton, wearing a collared shirt and tie during the farewell.
A tribute card was later posted on SNL’s official social media pages with the simple caption, “Diane Keaton ❤️.”
“So heartbroken to hear this news earlier today. Truly an icon. I was so happy they did this at the end of the episode 😢💔🕊️,” one of the many fans commented.
“I’m still in shock. Diane was the embodiment of joy. I adore everything about her and am glad to live in a world where she exists. May she rest in peace 🙏🕊🤍💔,” someone else said.
Another netizen said, “I’m so happy you shared this image last night. That’s how I found out she passed away. 💔😢.”
Keaton died on Saturday in California, where she lived, a rep told People, adding: “No further details are available at this time and her family asks for privacy at this moment of great sadness.”
It was later reported that the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the movie star’s home just after 8 a.m. that morning and transported her by ambulance to a local hospital.
Keaton’s cause of death has not yet been revealed, but a friend told People magazine that Keaton’s health had “taken a very sudden turn for the worse” in recent months, but that she and her close circle “chose to keep things very private.”
Her longtime friend Carol Bayer Sager went on to reveal that when she last saw her less than a month ago, she was “astounded at[Keaton’s]weight loss.”
A source said the mother-of-two “loves” her longtime Brentwood neighborhood, adding that “up until just a few months ago, she used to walk her dog every day.”
To the surprise of her friends, Keaton, who has battled both skin cancer and bulimia during her life, listed her “dream home” in March.
She looked happy and healthy in April’s last Instagram post commemorating National Pet Day.
