Jennifer Aniston blamed accusations that she didn’t have children due to her busy career in Hollywood.
The “Friends” alum opened up about her secret 20-year struggle to start a family in a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK published Thursday.
“They didn’t know my story and what I went through over the last 20 years trying to find a family because I don’t go out and tell them about my medical struggles,” she said.
Aniston, 56, went on to say that her medical issues are “nobody else’s business.”
“But there comes a point when I can’t stop hearing it: I’m not going to have a baby, I’m not going to have a family, because I’m selfish and a workaholic,” she continued.
Aniston admitted that she has been affected by the rumors, adding that she is “just human.”
“We’re all human, so I thought, ‘What the heck?'” she said.
Aniston famously criticized the media in a 2016 Huffington Post op-ed, but she doesn’t always feel the need to shut down false rumors about her because she knows the truth.
“The news cycle is so fast that it just flies by,” she explained. “Of course, there are times when you feel a sense of justice, when something is said that is not true and you have to correct a wrong.”
“And I think, ‘Is that really true?'” My family knows my truth, my friends know my truth. ”
The “Bruce Almighty” actress reflected on her decision to finally reveal to the world in 2022 that she was trying to start a family through IVF while dating Brad Pitt.
“Because at the time, I knew a lot of women who were trying to have children and who were working on IVF. So I felt like this wasn’t just for me, it was for all women who were struggling with the same issues,” she said.
Aniston spoke about her infertility treatments in the December 2022 Allure cover story.
“I would never have been who I was without that experience. So I’m so grateful for all these wonderful things,” she said at the time, revealing that she was “trying to get pregnant” a few years ago.
Aniston said she had been trying to conceive for years by “going through IVF (and) drinking Chinese tea” despite media speculation that she was not interested in becoming a mother.
“I was giving it my all. If someone had said to me, ‘Freeze your eggs. Good luck,’ I would have given anything.” You just don’t think so. So I’m here today. The ship has sailed,” she said.
Aniston said she feels safe now that she can move on.
“It’s no longer, ‘Can I do it? Maybe, maybe, just maybe.’ You don’t have to think about it anymore,” she said.
The “Morning Show” star was married to Pitt from 2000 to 2005 and Justin Theroux from 2015 to 2017.
Most recently, she has been meeting with hypnotist Jim Curtis.
