Before seeing LaRoy, potentially 20, 20-year-old McRae dated Columbus Blue Jacket Center Cole Syringer. In 2021, Sylinger called out her celebrity crash, and a few months later the couple became the official Instagram.
“It was really funny. I thought, ‘It was like I was your celebrity crash so I could hold this forever until the day you die,” McRae joked at Entertainment Tonight on the 2022 VMA Red Carpet.
The pair appeared to break up in early 2023 after McRae defeated all the photos from Instagram.

January 7th
It all began in the first week of the New Year. McRae posted a dump of photos from her recent vacation in Mexico, with the first photo in the carousel being a mirror selfie that looked like a LaRoy shirt.
Laroy also commented on her post, dropping a single “😎” emoji and incited more flames.
“Is that shirt yours?” replied one user.
Videos of the pair dancing with friends also began to circulate, meaning LaRoy was actually on a trip with McRae.

About a week later, the paparazzi took photos of LaRoy and McRae.
February 2024
People say that after McRae’s headline performance, the couple who are rumored to be held in the 2024 NHL All-Star Game were seen holding hands, but she and LaRoy have not yet confirmed or denied their relationship.
In an interview with Billboard that month, she looked back on their relationship.
“It was a really interesting process because me and LaRoy never took each other seriously,” she said. “You know when you’re involved and sing around each other, but aren’t you really singing? So it was a bit stressful in the studio where you sing and writing in front of him, but seeing him in the process was a cool experience.”

Rumors of division circulated throughout the summer. On July 25th, LaRoy confirmed the breakup in a previous Twitter X post, responding to fans who suggested they were covering the door online.
“Tate and I are in good condition,” he shared with his followers in a text message screenshot between himself and his rep. “And this just looks messy/smacked.”
He added that in his online criticism of Tate he “doesn’t do anything,” and that he “is not signed this action at all.”

On September 26th, McRae released “Tit for Tat,” with fans interpreting the lyrics about Laroy.
“The day I met you, boy, I thought it was a blessing/In the heat of it, I always took your side,” she sings. “It’s a shame that you’re here, Trina makes it messy / Wow, you’re messy, don’t worry.”
Tate continued. “Watch the song for the song, go back to back, Let’s to back / Let’s go tatt, you asked it / It’s the best thing you have, not as far as you thought it was.”
She may have been referring to his recent song, “A Cold Play.”
