“Weapons” director Zach Clegger has more plans for Auntie Gladys, an evilly talented occult expert played by Amy Madigan. Clegger has first confirmed that he is developing a character-focused “weapons” prequel, reporting that follow-up is in work.
“It’s real and I’ve been talking to Warner Bros. about it,” Clegger told Fangoria in a new interview. “There’s a story and I’m pretty excited about it. It’s not bullshit.”
Although studios often get to work on sequels after the film became a hit, Clegger says he was already pondering the concept of Aunt Gladys’ prequel before the “weapon” came out and won over $260 million worldwide.
“I was ready,” Cleger said. “I had it in my pocket before the film was released.”
A few days after the successful opening weekend of “Weapons,” a Hollywood reporter reported that the first part was being considered. The plot reportedly expands by drawing and drawing from a storyline focused on Aunt Gladys’ history, cut by Cleger during the film’s development.
However, next after Clegger is a reboot of “Resident Evil,” adapting Capcom’s flagship horror video game franchise. Clegger teased that his film features original characters that are not featured in the source material.
“We’re obedient to game lore, and that’s just another story,” Clegger said. “I’m not going to tell Leon’s story because Leon’s story is told in the game. …I’m the biggest admirer of the game, so it’s a love letter to the game, telling stories that follow the rules of the game.”
