“Emilia Perez” star Adriana Paz and “Snow Society” lead Agustin Perdera will star in the retelling story of Hilda Gadea, the first wife of the revolutionary Ernesto “Che” Guebara.
Based on Gadea’s memoirs, “My Life with Him (che)” (“mi vidaconél (che)” influenced shaping the political vision of one of the most important icons of the 20th century, but that voice turns on a woman who has been almost lost in his story.
Production companies Salado (Uruguay) and Arboleda (Argentina) joined forces to adapt their memoirs to the big screen. Sylvina Estevez, best known for her documentaries, “Años Kortos, Diaz Etas,” “My Gusta Quan & Habras,” and “School Life,” is attached to dictate the character of the story.
Set in the 1950s, the film traces a key meeting between the young Ernesto long before he became “Che” and a key meeting between the Peruvian economist, intellectual and activist Hilda. At its heart, the story explores their romantic bonds, Hilda’s journey to motherhood, and the painful choice that ultimately shaped her life: stay on the side of her daughter or follow the call of revolution.
“Hilda Gadea isn’t just Che’s wife. She is a woman with a strong idea, an expert, an activist and director. I am deeply moved and I am an actress of immeasurable sensitivity and strength, and Hilda is embodied by Adriana Pas.
Paz said: “It’s both a privilege and a great responsibility to interpret Hilda Gadea. Her story reminds me of the voices that all historical figures deserve to be heard, especially the voices of women who influenced parts of this film. I myself.”
Argentine actor Agustín Pardella, known for his role in Ja Bayona’s acclaimed “Society of the Snow,” will play Ernesto Guevara.
“This is a project that women spoke about, and I firmly believe there is a way to see the world that exists only when we are given the opportunity to put it on the screen.
Currently, the project is looking for international production partners to help bring about narratives that weave personal and politics into powerful, globally resonating narratives.
