In 2011, Grave Encounters found the film horror film that gained cult following among fans of the genre and produced a sequel to 2012, and is set to scare new viewers on a reboot.
Colin Minihan and Stuart Ortiz, who wrote and directed the original film and wrote “Grave Encounters 2,” will be developing a new film set for Star Justin Long, who is producing alongside his wife and frequent creative partner Kate Bosworth. Minihan, Ortiz and original producer Sean Angelski are also on board as producers.
The original film followed the fateful crew of a ghost hunting reality show when stumbling in real horror in an abandoned mental hospital. The new film aims to “moderate the concept into a cinematic experience and increase the psychological fear that has become a terrifying, claustrophobic and the original fan favorite.”
More recently, Minihan directed Coyote, a killer dog comedy scheduled to debut at Fantastic Fest on September 20th. Both Long and Bosworth have appeared in the film.
“We couldn’t deny our creative connection with Colin on the “Coyote” so we wanted to continue that relationship as soon as possible,” Long and Bosworth said in a joint statement. “He is a very rare combination of great filmmakers and fun collaborators and is excited to help revive one of his first horror gems, the new imagination of “Grave Encounter.” “Grave Encounters” has a passionate fan base and we unleash even more dark things, including ourselves within them. ”
“We had a ‘grave encounter’ in the 20s with a self-funded shoelaces budget. It scared people hell,” Minihan and Ortiz said in a statement. “Justin has defined genre films for over a decade and is the crucial king of screams. He is the perfect choice to rethink “grave encounters” for a new generation. ”
Production of the new “Grave Encounter” is scheduled to begin next year.
