“Erupcja”, Pete Ohs’ Toronto registered drama with Charli XCX playing her first lead film role, has been acquired for the US
The 1-2 special has won North American rights to the feature with plans to release it in theaters in 2026. Award-winning playwright Jeremy O. Harris, frequent OHS collaborator Wil Madden and breakout actress Lenagora also earn stars.
“Elpecha,” who shot guerrilla style in Warsaw, Poland, follows two women who forcefully complicate romantic lives. Nell (Gorra) lives in Warsaw, where he works in a flower shop. As her childhood friend Bethany (Charli) begins to visit with her new boyfriend, Volcano, it erupts like fate, entangles in a romantic web that makes the trio question their place in space. ”
“Erupcja” was produced by Spartan Media Acquisitions (OHS), Forever Holiday (Luke Arreguin), BB² (Josh Godfrey and Harris), and Charli. The deal was negotiated by CAA Media Finance, which has a 1-2 special on behalf of the filmmaker. The expansion represents international sales.
“Finally, another cool distributor exists to defend cool movies. We need them more,” said Ohs, who has been a festival circuit mainstay for several years with films like “Jecchika,” “Love and Work,” and “The True Beauty Being Bited by a Mite.” “I have a lot of hope for the 1-2 special. They’ve already got a strong start with two films: Harris Dickinson, Christian Pezzoldo, Simon Mesa Soto and Radu Jude. That’s a club I’m happy to be part of.”
OHS served as writer, producer, director, editor and cinematographer for “Erupcja.” Charli, Harris, Madden, and Góra each contributed to the scripts of the film. It features scores from Charles Watson from Bandslow Club and Isabella Summers from Florence + The Machine.
“I really enjoy my acting journey,” Charlie told Variety in August ahead of the premiere of both Toronto’s “Elpecha” and Julia Jackman’s “100 Night Hero,” which Boeing Venice. “I feel very inspirational at this point in the field, and I feel incredibly creative.
As OHS stated, the New York-based 1-2 special was released in February this year as “all-right distributor, the first theater.” Petzold’s two-week premiere, “Miroirs No. 3,” and Simón Mesa Soto’s UN-specific juj award winner, “A Poet.”
