And the bride wore something blue.
On Thursday night, Zendaya arrived at the premiere of The Drama in New York City wearing a strapless black and blue feathered dress by Schiaparelli Haute Couture, completing the bridal tradition she and her longtime stylist Law Roach have followed on the film’s press tour.
The dress was made from 65,000 raw silk feathers in 27 colors of blue and black.
The 29-year-old Emmy winner accessorized her look with sparkling silver and blue earrings and a giant matching ring on her hand.
She styled her hair slicked back and kept her makeup light apart from matching blue eyeshadow.
She and Roach have curated a tour centered around the classic wedding rhyme, “Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue,” and revealed the film’s framework at its March 17 LA premiere.
For “something old,” Zendaya brought back the white Vivienne Westwood dress she first wore at the 2015 Oscars when she was 18 years old. This dress made headlines after Giuliana Rancic made an unpleasant comment about her dreadlocks.
In Paris, “something new” took the form of a backless white Louis Vuitton dress with a dramatic black ribbon train.
Then, coming to Rome, she took with her “borrowed things.” It was a black Armani Prive dress pulled out of Cate Blanchett’s closet.
The trail of bridal-related breadcrumbs didn’t stop even after the four major premieres. Throughout the tour, Zendaya nods to themes of romance and destruction – think shredded tulle and tattered chiffon. On the other hand, I alternated between wearing bridal white and sharp men’s wear inspired by grooms.
Fashion Theater also served as a guessing game about her personal life. Roach insisted at the Actor’s Awards on March 1 that Zendaya and fiancé Tom Holland are married, telling Access Hollywood that “the wedding has already taken place.”
While Zendaya doubled down at the Oscars two weeks later, she played coy herself, swapping out her 5-carat diamond engagement ring for a thin gold band and responding to Jimmy Kimmel’s prodding about online rumors with, “Really? I’ve never seen anything like that.”
Since then, she has worn the same ring in every appearance, seemingly proving her status as a martial artist.
The A24 film “The Drama,” in which she and Robert Pattinson play an engaged couple whose relationship falls apart just days before their wedding, opens in theaters on Friday.
