Zendaya and Robert Pattinson gave their first interview on The Drama, during which Zendaya made some unusual comments about her fiancé Tom Holland.
The actress spoke about how Holland shaped her view of Pattinson when the two actors began collaborating on multiple projects.
She also spoke about her decision to keep her personal life private, stating that it was for herself and for the benefit of her career.
After several months away from the spotlight, Zendaya has begun the press tour for her film The Drama with co-star Robert Pattinson. The two actors sat down with Interview magazine, and while neither talked about their real-life relationships with their partners, Zendaya did reveal a little about how her fiancé, Tom Holland, shaped her perception of Pattinson. She also elaborated on why she has kept her personal life private, not only for herself but also for her performance.
Pattinson was asked if he thought being a public figure would make it difficult for Zendaya to fit into the character she plays.
“Yes and no. What I admire about you is that you keep so much of your life to yourself, which is a beautiful thing, especially with having a family (Pattinson and his partner Suki Waterhouse have a daughter). I’m learning how to balance those things. Eventually. Well, you’re a public figure, so there’s nothing you can do, but there are some things you can do for yourself and your loved ones, and consider that space between your anonymity to allow you to play someone else that doesn’t necessarily let you in. I mean, we talked about being eloquent, and I’m stumbling over my words trying to explain what I’m trying to say, but I try to be true to myself, not just to my characters, but to myself in real life, but also for myself. ”
The actress also made an unusual comment about Holland while discussing her preconceptions about meeting Pattinson for the first time.
She said Ms. Pattinson probably knew “what I thought about you before I met you.”
Pattinson added: “Tom[Holland]already said that.”
“To tell you the truth, I met you because we had mutual friends, and you’ve always been a quiet, gentle person. That’s a little different from my experience with Rob,” she said. “You didn’t say too much, and I thought, ‘Oh, mystical!'” Then I talked to Tom, and he said, “No, he’s a very fun guy, always laughing and joking,” and I thought, “Really?” I don’t think I’ve ever experienced that side of him. ”
“That’s very depressing,” Pattinson replied. “I wish I could remain mysterious. I’ve learned over and over again that if you don’t say anything, people are like, ‘Wow, you’re really intimidating.’ But I can’t maintain that.”
She brought up Holland again later in the conversation, when she was talking about Pattinson’s habits. “Tom is right. He laughs at everything he says, so it’s very hard to tell when he’s being serious and when he’s not,” she told Pattinson. “And I’ll start a sentence and say it really fast, and I’ll stop myself and say, ‘I don’t care.'” And I always end up saying it, and I have to say, “No, what is that, Rob?” What are you thinking? ”
“That’s awful,” Pattinson quipped, before adding with a laugh, “That’s not even true.”
The drama will be the first of three films Pattinson and Zendaya will co-star in this year. It also appears in Dune: Part Three and The Odyssey.
