Zendaya appeared on The New York Times’ podcast “Modern Love” on April 1st. In the interview, she reflected on her relationship with Tom Holland, amid recent speculation about her marital status. Zendaya called Holland her “person” and detailed how Tom put her at ease when they first met.
Zendaya and Tom Holland have not yet confirmed their marital status amid speculation that they recently tied the knot, but Zendaya has made it clear that her relationship with Holland is going strong.
The drama star appeared on the April 1 episode of The New York Times’ podcast Modern Love and talked about the calming effect Holland’s presence has on her.
“At least in my personal experience, sometimes people get nervous in front of people, but there’s a certain feeling that I was able to experience when I knew this was me, because I didn’t do that,” she explained. “I don’t get nervous. I feel really peaceful, very calm, and I’m like, ‘Oh, actually, I’m more nervous when I’m away from you than when I’m with you.'” That’s when I was like, ‘Oh, this is a good sign, I’m listening to my intuition.’ ”
During the podcast, the Euphoria star also recalled the first time she met Holland, revealing that he made her feel less nervous. “The first time we met was at the audition, so I was really nervous, but he was a nice guy and made me feel at ease and made me feel at ease,” Zendaya said. “Having to do chemical analysis for a big movie like that, it’s like you really want that job and things like that. And yeah, he was really nice at that time.”
Although Zendaya did not address rumors that she and Tom Holland recently got married, she did comment on the podcast about social media’s obsession with their relationship and her desire to maintain as much privacy as possible despite her and Holland’s fame.
“I feel like there’s this level of parasocial investment in my personal relationships,” she said. “I know I’m a public person, and he’s the same way. And I know we’ve done movies where we’ve grown up in public and fallen in love with each other. So I really understand that, and I don’t want to dismiss it as, ‘Please step away from work.’
Zendaya said she is a “very private person,” adding, “I try my best to do what I can for him as well as for myself.”
