Zachery Ty Bryan has apologized for his actions, calling his recent domestic violence incident a “painful wake-up call.”
The Home Improvement alum, 44, told TMZ on Thursday that he is on a “journey of personal growth” and is taking responsibility for his past acts of violence.
“Fame as a child actor left a scar. Being in the spotlight at the age of nine brought pressure that I was not equipped to handle. But it doesn’t justify my choices as an adult,” Brian told the magazine.
Brian went on to say he “deeply” regrets the pain and harm he has caused, adding: “Domestic violence in any form is unacceptable.”
“The truth is, I have struggled with the lingering effects of early fame, addiction, and poor decision-making that harmed those I care about and led to repeated legal issues, including DUI and past domestic incidents,” he continued.
“This latest situation, involving a restraining order and serious charges, is a painful wake-up call.”
The actor also revealed how his multiple run-ins with the law have affected his role as a father, as he is the father of seven children.
“Being labeled a ‘bad father’ hurts my heart because my children are my world and I know I’m not good enough.”
Brian also revealed that he has been attending a rehab facility and is focusing on getting sober and getting treatment.
He also attends anger management programs and support groups to address his behavioral patterns.
On Wednesday, news broke that Brian’s ex-girlfriend had been granted a five-year restraining order against him.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, the victim first called police on July 3 when the actor allegedly punched her in the right temple after playfully biting her nipple.
The woman also claimed that during another argument, Brian threatened to end her life and told her, “Shut up or I’ll shut up.”
The Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift actor has been arrested twice in the past for domestic violence cases.
He was arrested in October 2020 for allegedly strangling his then-girlfriend and later pleaded guilty to menacing and fourth-degree assault.
Brian was arrested in January on charges of “hitting a woman multiple times and threatening to kill her.” Page Six can confirm that this lawsuit is still pending.
