“The Marshalls,” a new CBS drama set in Taylor Sheridan’s “Yellowstone” universe, has been suddenly renewed for a second season just 12 days after its premiere. The Eye gave “Marshalls” a pickup after the show premiered on March 1 with Boffo number.
The show’s March 1 premiere drew 20.6 million viewers across seven days across multiple platforms (including CBS and Paramount+), according to CBS. CBS noted that it was the most-watched broadcast original series premiere without an NFL lead-in since 2017 (CBS’ “Young Sheldon”), according to Nielsen Panel + Big Data and Live +7 ratings.
The premiere episode of “The Marshalls” also currently ranks as the most streamed episode of a CBS show ever on Paramount+. It was the No. 1 show of the week, capping off a week of midseason premieres on the Eye Network (including this week’s No. 2 show, “Trackers”).
“‘Marshalls’ has delivered groundbreaking performances, achieved massive viewership across platforms, and quickly established itself as one of the strongest new series in television,” Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, said in a statement. “The overwhelming audience response speaks to the strength of the Yellowstone universe, the bold character-driven storytelling by our creative team, and the performances of our dynamic cast led by Luke Grimes.”
Pre-produced by Paramount TV Studios and 101 Studios, “Marshalls” stars Luke Grimes as “Yellowstone” star Casey Dutton, who joins an elite unit of U.S. marshals and “combines his skills as a cowboy and a Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana.”
Logan Marshall-Green, Ariel Kebbell, Ash Santos, Tatanka Means, Brecken Merrill, Mo Brings Plenty and Gil Birmingham also star. Sheridan, David Glasser, John Linson, Art Linson, Spencer Hudnutt, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yali, Michael Friedman, Grimes and Greg Yaitanes will serve as executive producers.
