A24 and Lionsgate brought newcomers to the Friday box office with “How to Make a Kill” and “I Can Only Imagine 2,” respectively. However, it was not able to take away the first place. From last week’s champion “Wuthering Heights.”

How to Make a Killing debuted at number four on its opening day, grossing $1.6 million from 1,625 theaters in North America. Rivals are hoping the comedy-thriller will gross $3.2 million by Sunday. “How to Make a Killing,” directed by “Emily the Criminal” director John Patton Ford, depicts Beckett Redfellow, played by Glen Powell. Beckett Redfellow is an avenger who decides to kill her estranged family in order to obtain a huge inheritance. Other cast members include Margaret Qualley, Ed Harris, Jessica Henwick, Topher Grace, and Zach Woods. The film is a loose adaptation of the 1949 black comedy Kind Hearts and Coronets.

Emerald Fennell’s “Wuthering Heights” grossed $4.6 million domestically and was No. 1 for the second consecutive Friday. This represents a decrease of approximately 56% from the first day’s revenue. Its rivals include a sexy literary drama starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, which has earned $14.2 million through Sunday. This brings the North American total to $60 million within two weeks of release.

Sony’s “GOAT” earned $3.8 million domestically on Friday, taking second place. This is a 46% decrease from last Friday’s numbers. The animated family film, which follows a skinny anthropomorphic goat who dreams of sports stardom, is expected to gross $13 million to $14 million through Sunday, for a domestic total of $54 million to $55 million.

Lionsgate took third place with “I Can Only Imagine 2.” The faith-based musical drama grossed $3.75 million on Friday and will jump to $8 million to $9 million by Sunday. The original 2018 version was a huge hit, grossing $86 million against a $7 million budget. Based on the best-selling Christian song of all time, I Can Only Imagine 2 follows Mercy Me’s Bart Millard as he navigates faith, family and fame after his moving ballad rockets him to global fame. The film stars Milo Ventimiglia and Dennis Quaid and is directed by Andrew Irwin and Brent McCorkle.

Amazon MGM’s “Crime 101” ranked No. 5 at the domestic box office on its second Friday of release. The heist thriller added $1.53 million on Friday, down 61% from its opening day last Friday. By Sunday, $5.46 million has been added, bringing the North American total to $24 million.
