World War II movie “Battle of Oslo” becomes a huge hit on Global Constellation

Finance and sales company Global Constellation has closed a number of important international deals for director Daniel Farre’s World War II drama The Battle of Oslo.

The film was sold in North America (Samuel Goldwyn Films), Australia and New Zealand (Palace), Spain (Alfa), the former Yugoslavia (Karantajina), Japan (At Entertainment), and South Korea (Noori Pictures).

The film, which was previously released across Scandinavia by Scanbox, grossed more than €5.5 million at the Norwegian box office and will also be released in German-speaking countries through The Wild Bunch.

A fascinating true story of courage under fire and the cost of standing up for what’s right, The Battle of Oslo tells the story of the decisive actions of Colonel Birger Eriksen, whose fateful choices shaped the fate of a nation.

On April 9, 1940, Norway came under siege. As German warships approach Oslo, Colonel Birger Eriksen, commander of the understaffed Fortress Oskarsborg, makes a bold decision that will change the course of history. With no reinforcements, no clear orders, and time running out, he made the fateful decision to fire the first bombardment against the invading Germans, sinking the heavy cruiser Blücher.

His actions slow down the enemy and delay a full-scale invasion, while provoking a brutal response. Trapped for 10 hours under relentless shelling, Eriksen must protect not only his homeland, but also the lives of those closest to him.

The Battle of Oslo stars Bjorn Sundquist (The Last King) as Colonel Birger Eriksen, and co-stars Andrea Berntsen (Utoya: 22 July), Eldar Skarr (The Northman), Fridtjof Thorheim and John Øgaarden.

The film will be directed by Daniel Farre, written by Axel Herstenius with screenwriter Melike Leblebiscioglu Kaveh, and executive produced by Knut Inge Sorb of Phenomen Studios, with Tom Marius Kittilsen and Jørgen Strom Rosenberg serving as executive producers.

Global Constellation and Scanbox are both part of the Vuelta. Vuelta is a premium European studio that brings together leading local production and distribution companies with international sales under one creative roof.

Global Constellation is currently screening Jeremy Comte’s Paradise and Sophie Heldmann’s The Education of Jane Cumming at the Berlin International Film Festival, both of which are shown in Panorama. Global Constellation has also begun selling Shea Wageman’s new CG animated feature Dragoon, and is giving buyers the first look at the upcoming World War II drama Crux, the noir thriller Wild Wild East, the 2D family animation Viva Carmen, and the queer adult animation Gym Queen.
