Wizards of Waverly Place will have its final magic when it returns for its rebooted third and final season on Disney+ and Disney Channel this summer.
Selena Gomez, who anchored the original Wizards of Waverly Place, will guest star and reprise her role as Alex Russo in multiple episodes. Gomez is also set to make her directorial debut, helming the premiere episode of the new four-episode season.
Wizards of Waverly Place stars David Henley as Justin Russo, Janis Leanne Brown as Billy, Arcaio Thiele as Roman Russo, Max Matenko as Milo Russo, Taylor Cora as Winter, and Mimi Gianopoulos as Giada Russo.
According to the Season 3 logline, “Still reeling from losing Alex at the end of Season 2, Billy realizes the only way to save his mother is to reunite with his long-lost father. As the family unites to search for Alex, Billy realizes that the only way to defeat the evil plaguing the Russo family is to join forces.”
Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas will serve as writers and executive producers for the revival. Gary Marsh, Jonas Agin, Rick Williams, Gomez and Henry have also produced EPs. Wizards of Waverly Place was created by Todd Greenwald.
The original series aired on Disney Channel from 2007 to 2012 and followed the three Russo siblings as they mastered magical abilities while navigating the challenges of adolescence. “Wizards” catapulted Gomez into a superstar actor and recording artist.
The revival was a huge hit for Disney, with over 101 million views on Disney Channel’s YouTube account, according to the network.
