Gastón Solnicki’s lively new film, “The Souffleur,” starring Willem Dafoe in a world premiere with Venice Horizons, finding a home in Italy.
Magnify sold the film to Revolver & Madison Group for distribution in Italy. The company plans to release a wide range of theatrical releases of its films next year.
The film was also bought by Filmladen in Austria.
Along with Dafoe, the film stars Solnicki, newcomers Lilly Senn, Stephanie Argerich and Claus Philipp. The main crew includes director of cinema Louis Pochasse (“Grand Tour”).
Austrian production company The Souffleur is produced by Gabriere Kranzerbinder and Paolocaramita (“Museum Time”) of Little Magnet Film and KGP Film Producion.
“We are proud to represent such an original film in Italy. There is an incredible performance by Willem Dafour,” said Paolo Maria Spina of Revolver & Madison Group.
Dafoe starred as Lucius, a dedicated hotel manager, and after working for 30 years, it turns out that the building is being sold to an Argentinean developer. With the help of his daughter and a few loyal employees, he clings to the life he has built. Below is the only home he has ever known, with detours, spies and a paranoid struggle crusade to maintain a vanishing world.
“We’re delighted to team up with Revolver & Madison Group,” said Global Sales Head of Global Sales Austin Kennedy, who attends the Venice Film Festival and is negotiating a contract with Paolo Maria Spina at Revolver & Madison Group. “‘The Souffleur’ is a true cinematic experience and we can’t wait for an Italian audience to experience it in the theatre,” Kennedy continued.
In an interview with Venice Variety, the filmmakers praised Dafour. He said, “He was very courageous and I was very impressed. Someone of his talent and experience said he was still ambitious as an actor.”
“He was very open, but he has all these other commitments so he was very strict in his time as well. I wanted to make a more ambitious film, but Willem insisted he wanted to do what I do all the time.
