Former CNN anchor Don Lemon may have focused on becoming an independent journalist after being fired from CNN in 2023, but he may have even more ambitious plans in mind for the future.
On the March 29 episode of the Pod Save America podcast, Lemon discussed his possible political future with guest host Alex Wagner, and a presidential run was also discussed.
“Have you thought about that? Yes. Will that happen? Yeah, if the opportunity presents itself and the right opportunity presents itself, it can happen,” Lemon said. “Look, if I wanted to…people would think I was crazy and this would make headlines and people would laugh about it. I think I could be president of the United States.”
“Look, why can’t I think about running for office? Why can’t I think about being president of the United States?” he also said. “As Barack Obama says, he’s a man with an interesting name and a diverse background, but who ever thought he would become president or have any ambitions like that? I don’t have any ambitions to be president, but I think he can run this country much better than Donald Trump.”
Lemon also said his campaign would make his situation more difficult as a candidate.
“I’m not white, so the rules are different for me,” he said. “And just like the rules, I think sadly it’s different for women. It’s different for Hillary Clinton, Nikki Haley, Kamala Harris, Alex Wagner. And white men get away with it far more than women or black people or other minorities.”
