Will Arnett has slammed all the “funny” rumors about his relationship with ex-wife Amy Poehler, explaining that the former couple are actually good friends.
In an interview with Rolling Stone published Wednesday, the 55-year-old actor revealed that he came up with the concept of bringing in a surprise guest on his podcast, SmartLess, without telling his two other hosts, Jason Bateman and Sean Hayes.
But in April, Bateman and Hayes surprised Arnett with Poehler, 54, as a guest.
“Oh, that was amazing,” he gushed about the episode. “So Amy texted Sean and I this morning saying, ‘Hey, we’re all nominated for a Golden Globe, so let’s party.’ And she said, ‘I don’t have Bateman’s number, so maybe that’s for the best.’ That was the text. ”
In fact, his only concern about this episode was that their children (17-year-old Archie and 15-year-old Abel) were hiding a secret from him.
“One of the most disturbing things about her appearing on our podcast is that my sons lied to me. That’s the part that disturbed me,” he said, before going on to say that they “omitted the truth.”
However, when Abel apologizes to her father for knowing and not telling him, Arnett, who is understanding, responds, “It’s okay, dude.”
When asked if her appearance on Poehler’s show “cleared up a lot of speculation about[their]relationship,” Arnett said, “People think they know. I’ve read a lot of opinions that people have over the years. It’s so funny how much stuff is made up and they have no idea. It’s like, ‘Oh, you think you know what my life is about?'”
The “Arrested Development” star spoke at length about his complicated relationship with the concept of fame.
“Look, yeah, this is part of the celebrity culture that we all participate in. By the way,[celebrities]have been good to me, so I don’t want to step into that,” he made sure to point out, adding that he still “struggles with this issue.”
He elaborated, “You have to be careful. The universe is going to say, ‘Wow, you don’t want it? We’ll take it away from you.'” Fame is just a weird thing. ”
Arnett admitted that he is “not the most famous guy in the world by any stretch of the imagination” and claimed that people “don’t really care” about what’s going on in his personal life.
Although he never sought fame by aspiring to become an actor, he knows the two go hand in hand.
Arnett and Poehler were married from August 2003 to July 2016.
