Shakira was not at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards. She won the Best Latin Song for “Soltera.”
Shakira won the Best Latin Song Award at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards, but did not attend the ceremony at Elmont, New York. Her song “Soltera” beat tracks such as Bad Bunny, J Balvin and Karol G, but Shakira left the event that night after performing a concert in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Shakira is on tour nationwide, with the next Las Mugerez Ya No Rollan show set for Puebla on September 11th.
She was photographed performing in Mexico City on August 26th.
Despite the lack of tonight’s show, the star has years of connection to the VMA. She became the first South American artist to receive the Video Vanguard Award in 2023, joining recipients such as Beyoncé, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Rihanna, and the Beatles. Before paying tribute to her statue, she gave spectacular performances of her biggest hit medleys, including “Her Wolf,” “Te Felice,” “Objection (Tango),” “When, Anywhere,” “The Hip Don’t Lie,” “Shakira: BZRP Music Sessions, Vol 53.”

Before winning the 2023 Vanguard Award, her final performance came in 2006 when she performed with Wyclef Jean. In 2005, Shakira sang “Latulla” with Alejandro Sants. This was the first performance in VMA history to be sung entirely in Spanish at an awards show.
When accepting the Vanguard Award, Shakira thanked her two sons, Milano and Sasha, before thanking the fans.
“I especially want to share this award with my thick, thin fans who are always supporting me. Thank you for being my army and for helping me fight all my battles. This is for you,” she said. “Lo QieroMuchísimo.”
