On Saturday, Kim Kardashian attended the 5th Annual Academy Museum Gala wearing a dramatic Maison Margiela haute couture dress. The look included a structured sleeveless bodice with removable cape sleeves and a face veil that completely covered Kardashian’s face and the back of her head. The covering highlighted an ornate tiered silver choker necklace with a green stone holding the translucent nude fabric in place.
Her face was only slightly visible through a head veil held together by a ruched seam at the top of her head. As a star known for her iconic makeup style and striking features, fans may wonder why she chose to go out somewhat incognito on such a big night.

Kardashian apparently wanted to honor Maison Margiela’s intentions by including a face-covering gown instead of removing it. The company has been experimenting with face coverings at various runway shows over the past few decades, so Kardashian may have felt it was especially important to incorporate them.
Kardashian has worn face-covering looks before. At the 2021 Met Gala, she wore a black haute couture dress by Balenciaga with a long train and fabric veil, with a long ponytail falling down her back.
And in August this year, she wore another Margiela dress to the DVF Awards, which was also originally a face-covering style, but shared a number of photos from the event where her face was exposed and her hair was down.
