Hours after Chase Stokes hinted on Instagram that he and Kelsea Ballerini had broken up again, a source confirms their split to Us Weekly. Multiple outlets reported that the two had reconciled earlier this month after their initial breakup in September, but an insider with Us Weekly revealed the reason for their second breakup and whether they could ever get back together.
Shortly after Chase Stokes hinted on Instagram yesterday that he and Kelsea Ballerini had broken up again (he wrote that he had been blocked), a source close to the former couple confirmed to Us Weekly that they indeed broke up again “last week.”
It was “very rocky and toxic,” the source claimed. “It was too much for Kelsey,” a source noted, adding that “jealousy definitely got in the way” and that Ballerini “had a lot of trust issues” with her ex-girlfriend. (She herself alludes to this in her Mount Pleasant track “Emerald City.”)
The source added that while Ballerini still cares about Stokes, the two approached their reconciliation with “a lot of expectations,” plus their busy schedules that ultimately led to the end of their relationship.
They may have a future together, but not right now. “Chase has really tried to make it work and[he]loves her,” the source said. However, “[they]aren’t talking right now,” a source said. “There’s always a chance they’ll get back together, but[for now]they’re taking their places.”
Ballerini has not publicly addressed the breakup. Yesterday, Stokes hinted at that in two Instagram stories, writing: “Don’t believe the media (who recently reported on his alleged reconciliation with Ballerini). I’m blocked, I didn’t do anything wrong. I’m sorry ❤️ I tried.”
In a second post, he wrote, “Sorry to those who believed in us. It is what it is. Onwards and upwards.”
When Ballerini and Stokes first broke up in September, a source close to the couple told People magazine, “They were two adults who were trying their best and trying everything they could to make it work, but ultimately they couldn’t. That’s what happens.”
A source later told Us Weekly that Ballerini had broken up with him. “It was a tough breakup. They’ve been arguing a lot lately, and their communication hasn’t been great in the last month. They’re both traveling a lot and trying to juggle everything, so the arguments just piled up.”
