Gracie Abrams skipped the red carpet at the 2025 MTV VMA in New York. She won her first pick at VMAS last year, but was unable to attend tonight due to her tour.
Over the past year, Gracie Abrams has taken her from a sold-out arena to the Glastonbury stage, but sadly, it wasn’t on the MTV VMA red carpet. She was absent tonight at the 2025 ceremony in Elmont, New York. (The award was eventually sent to Rose and Bruno Mars for “apt.”)
After closing out her Secrets of Us tour in late August, Abrams may have taken a little while from the spotlight after being on the road. Her boyfriend, actor Paul Mezcal, took part in the Toronto Film Festival this weekend for his new film, “Hamnet.” So they wouldn’t have been able to join the VMA together anyway. They are also very private about their relationship.
Abrams has been riding a wave of career milestones over the past year. Her second album, The Secret of Us, debuted in June 2024 on the Billboard 200, with her first Top 10 single, “That’s So True.”
Speaking about the impact of the track, she told Billboard, “It’s true” was the first song I did. I felt a little sick, sitting down to write something.
Her momentum continues until 2025, making her debut at Glastonbury, a sold-out arena in North America and Europe, and as a musical guest on Saturday Night Live.
Abrams also spoke about having a healthy relationship with Cosmopolitan earlier this year, saying, “What I like about healthy relationships is that your life is fundamentally unchanged. You fit each other in a way that feels positively challenging and deeply supportive.
