Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) finds a match for Sophie in actress Yerin Ha. In August 2024, Variety reported that Ha had been cast as the lead in the fourth season of the show, which is based on the third Bridgerton book, An Offer from a Gentleman.
In September of the same year, Netflix confirmed the news itself and shared the first promotional footage for Ha. “Ah, the new member of Tong… Yerin Ha will be playing Sophie in Bridgerton Season 4!!!!,” she captioned the post.
It was also revealed that the character’s last name was changed to reflect her heritage. The Sophie Beckett in this book is now Sophie Beck. Speaking about the change, director Ha told Tudam, “A name is the first part of your identity that you share with the world, which is why changing your name is so powerful. Matching Sophie’s name to someone who looks like me is really empowering. A credit to showrunner Jess Brownell.”
However, this is not Ha’s first role. The 28-year-old Korean-Australian actress has also appeared in Halo and the upcoming Dune: Prophecy series, among other projects. See below for more information about Ha.
Ha is a Korean-Australian actress who comes from a family of actors.
Acting runs in Ha’s family. The star spoke to Australian Vogue in November 2019 about why she was drawn to pursue this profession. “My grandmother was an actor and my parents met at drama school, so I always grew up with knowledge of what theater and screen were, so that’s something I was always interested in,” she said.
Although Ha grew up in Sydney, she auditioned for a performing arts school in South Korea when she was 15. “It was intense training from 7 a.m. to 12 a.m. almost every day for three years,” she told the outlet. “I’m just learning about teamwork and who I am and things like that.”
She spoke to Netflix’s Tudam about playing the role of Sophie in September 2024.
Ms. Ha gave her first interview about Bridgerton to Tudam in the fall. “What attracted me to Sophie was that she quickly faces obstacles. She always has to overcome them,” Ha said. “Is it a fight over social status, or is he trying to hide his feelings from Benedict?”
“The theme of masks was running through my entire audition scene,” Herr added. “When does Sophie wear this mask to hide her emotions? Or vice versa, when does she take it off and when does she become soft? It’s really fun to play with those (questions).”
The star has been vocal about the representation of Asians on screen.
Ms Ha told Australian Vogue in 2019 that she hoped one day there would be broader representation of all people in Hollywood. “I hope there comes a time when we can actually see[people from different backgrounds]playing girlfriends and romantic protagonists, but in my opinion, audiences aren’t used to seeing this much diversity on screen or on stage yet,” she said. Her comments came a year before Bridgerton premiered and became known for its diverse casting.
While promoting Halo in March 2022, Ha reiterated that position, explaining to The Gamer that it was the reason he played Kwan Ha in the Paramount+ military series.
“To be honest, I’ve never really received a brief for a character like Kwan,” she said. “This industry is really changing. It really started with “Crazy Rich Asians,” which I think really shook up Hollywood, so we’re going to bring it back there. But when you look at such young, powerful Korean women, they’re unapologetic about using their voices, saying what they think, and not only trying to do whatever it takes to get what they want, but also to fight for the greater good of their people. Trying to do it for the sake of it and understanding what the sacrifices are and what the legacy is. That’s the kind of storyline that really appealed to me. And that’s what I found out.” It was really important to convey that and we didn’t get to see that change for sure, but growing up, I only saw Asian women playing out stereotypes in convenience stores and stuff like that. So it was also really important for us to see the younger generation portray themselves in a really fierce way. ”
Ha revealed the acting advice she received from her grandmother.
Ha told Australian Vogue that her grandmother taught her to be brave, to be courageous, to stand up for what you believe in. And to not be afraid of looking ugly! I think once you let go of that appearance, you can embrace who you really are.
The Korea Herald reported that Ha’s grandmother is Sung-sook, a famous Korean actress. In June 2022, while promoting Halo, Ha told the media that he still thinks he is trying to prove himself in the industry. “I was honored and excited to be a part of such a great project, surrounded by so many talented actors,” she said. “I had the pleasure of playing one of the lead roles in Halo, and I know how much I have to work and learn to become a better actor.”
She is a MapleStory fan.
During an interview to promote Halo, Ha was asked about his gaming habits. “I was a MapleStory girl,” she told ScreenRant, referring to the online role-playing game.
She used Instagram and showed a glimpse of her birthday celebration, which took place in January 2026.
Ha appears to be a Capricorn, and the 28-year-old star posted a photo of her birthday celebration on January 21, 2026. The star shared a series of photos and videos taken in Paris on Instagram.
Ha made her fashion show debut at Chanel in March 2025.
In March 2025, Ha attended Chanel’s Fall 2025 fashion show for the first time during Paris Fashion Week. “It’s the first-ever Fashion Week show,” she told WWD at the time. “And that was Chanel, and just being in that space and being able to be with so many creative people who understand fashion and it as another art form… it was amazing.”
Ha said she returned to filming Bridgerton immediately after the show, wearing a look from the house’s 2024/2025 Métiers d’art collection. “It’s going really well,” she said of production. “Work has never felt like work. It just feels like playtime.”
The actress spoke with ELLE about joining Bridgerton in October 2025.
In an interview with ELLE in October 2025, Ha looked back on the moment she found out she would be appearing in Season 4 of Bridgerton. “It shocked me and really brought me to tears on the streets of Gangnam, South Korea,” she said. “Everyone looked at me weird, but it was really nice.”
Director Ha also talked about joining the series as a new character and joining the cast, who had already filmed three seasons together. “Being a newcomer is always very nerve-wracking and you just want to make sure you fit in and bring good vibes,” she said, adding that her co-stars “made me feel welcome from the beginning” and “never made me feel like an outsider.”
In January 2026, Ha also spoke candidly about pressure and impostor syndrome.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, director Ha spoke about the emotional weight of leading a global series. “I had to rewire my brain to tell myself that I could dream more and actually dream up big roles and characters that I dreamed about in theory but never actually believed I could be,” she said.
Reflecting on the magnitude of the opportunity, Herr said playing Sophie felt like a lifelong dream. “You always hope that someday in your career you’ll play a romantic leading lady,” the actress said. “And actually, Cinderella was my favorite princess when I was little. And our story is a little bit based on the Cinderella story metaphor, but we deviate from that. But in that sense, there were some moments where I felt like a princess and it felt like a little bit of a dream come true.”
