When New York Mets slugger Pete Alonso met his future wife, Haley Alonso, in 2015, he knew she was the one.
The two met while playing summer baseball in the Cape Cod League in 2015. Pete attended the University of Florida, while Haley (née Walsh) attended Michigan State University, so the two continued their long-distance relationship after school.
“I couldn’t get enough of her,” the MLB professional told ESPN in 2020. “This was the best for me.”
Two years after Pete made his MLB debut in 2019, the two married in Tampa, Florida.
“Since we met, you have been incredibly supportive, loving, and motivating in my life every day,” the baseball star wrote on Instagram on Valentine’s Day 2020. “I can’t thank God enough for putting you in my life. You always capture my heart.”
Pete and Hayley announced they were expecting their first child earlier this year and gave birth to a baby boy in September 2025.
So, who is Pete Alonso’s wife? Here’s everything you need to know about Hayley Alonso, the wife of a professional baseball player.

According to her WayUp profile, Haley is from Boston and studied journalism and political science at Michigan State University. She graduated in 2016 and was a member of Alpha Phi.
“Thank you to my two favorite MSU alumni, aka my amazing grandparents, who made me memorize the fight song at age 2 and taught me that no two colors go together better than green and white,” Haley celebrated her graduation on Instagram. “My lifelong dream of graduating from Michigan State University came true today. I’m so glad they’re by my side!”
She and Pete had a long-distance relationship during college.

Pete, a University of Florida graduate, met Haley in 2015 while playing summer baseball in the Cape Cod League. The two continued their long-distance relationship until they graduated from their respective universities, talking on the phone as much as possible.
Pete told ESPN that his college roommates teased him relentlessly and actively tried to sabotage his relationship. “It got worse to the point where they totally attacked me for it, and I got really upset,” Pete told the outlet.
But the two remained undeterred and got engaged in November 2018.
After their engagement, Hailey wrote on Instagram, “I can’t believe I’m marrying this kind soul who goes above and beyond every day to make me feel beautiful and loved.” “So I found a guy who sent me handwritten letters every day while I was away, so I had something to look forward to, like writing in a notebook or something.”

Pete and Haley kicked off their wedding weekend in Tampa’s Ybor City neighborhood, which Haley called “the perfect backdrop.” She said, “We had tapas and paella for dinner, a cigar rolling station on the balcony, and an Irish band was our way of paying homage to our Spanish and Irish heritage.”
Their wedding took place on November 12, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Tampa. Pete called their wedding “absolutely the best day of my life.”
“I got to marry the woman of my dreams in front of God, family, and friends,” he wrote on Instagram. “I’m so happy and proud to be your husband, @haleyralonso.”
On their first anniversary in 2022, Hailey shared a photo from their wedding on Instagram, to which Pete replied, “The most memorable and special day of my life.”
Pete also wrote a sweet message to Haley on their wedding anniversary, sharing, “Today marks the one-year anniversary of the most special moment in my life. I’m the luckiest man alive to be married to the love of my life!!! It’s so amazing to be your husband and I can’t wait for everything that’s to come. I love you so much @haleyralonso.”

Haley chronicles Pete’s journey from playing baseball at the University of Florida to the major leagues. She cheered on her husband after his historic 2019 rookie season and back-to-back Home Run Derby wins, and proudly rooted for the Mets in the 2022 playoffs.
She had a particularly sweet message for Pete after he was called up to the majors in 2019.
“Pete called me around noon today and said, ‘Hey baby, I’m a big leaguer. I’m going to play on Opening Day tomorrow.’ And we both cried…” she wrote on Instagram. “We’ve always talked about what this moment would feel like, but let me tell you it’s 10,000 times better than we could have ever imagined. I’ve never been so proud of someone in my life, and he deserves every ounce of this.”
Hayley supports Pete off the field as well, and was right by his side after Pete was involved in a car accident in March 2022. Pete was heading to his first day of spring training in Port St. Lucie, Florida, when a driver ran a red light and crashed into his truck, causing the vehicle to roll over three times.
Her support throughout his career is noteworthy. In October 2023, Pete shared a photo of them together at Citi Field on Instagram, calling her his “rock” in the caption.
“This season has been full of ups and downs. I wish I could have been the last team standing, but the baseball gods will reward my hard work and determination sometime in the future. No matter what, I couldn’t do what I do without my wife and rock by my side day and night,” he wrote.
In October 2024, Haley got another chance to brag about her husband when his ninth-inning home run led the Mets to victory in a wild-card playoff game. Hailey shared footage of Pete’s home run on her Instagram Stories, writing: “Insane!!!!!!”

The Mets first baseman and his wife co-founded the Alonso Foundation. According to the nonprofit’s Instagram profile, its goal is to “stand up for and support those in need in our community.”
To accomplish this goal, the foundation has raised funds through a variety of events, including a youth home run derby and comedy night in Pete’s hometown of Tampa. The company also runs donation campaigns for veterans’ organizations, animal rights groups, and hurricane relief organizations.
Pete’s dedication to service is well known to Mets fans. According to CBS News, on the 18th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, he bought custom cleats for his teammates to wear in honor of the victims and first responders.

The Alonso family are the proud parents of a French bulldog named Brody.
The dog’s original name was Brady, but Pete told ESPN’s Tim Kurkjian in 2020 that Haley was from Boston and knew too many dogs named Brady, so they changed the name a bit. (The Mets’ general manager at the time was Brodie Van Wagenen, but that was just a coincidence.)
Brody briefly had his own Instagram account, and his profile described him as a mix between a bat, a rabbit, a piglet, and an ET.
The couple has also supported animal-related causes. In 2023, they helped sponsor a Labrador retriever named Bear, who was a service dog in training with the Warriors’ K9. Bear, one of the Warriors’ K9 dogs rescued from a high-kill shelter, will join Pete for spring training in Port St. Lucie and once training is complete, he will become a high-risk veterinarian’s service dog.
