rundown
Nobody Wants This star Jackie Torn has been dating actor Joe Gillette for four years. Gillette has written and directed several short films and has also appeared in several popular television shows. Torn and Gillette often share romantic details about their relationship on social media.
Jackie Torn made quite an impact in Netflix’s Nobody Wants This thanks to her hilarious and candid performance as Esther, the sister-in-law of “hot” Rabbi Noah (Adam Brody). In season 1, Esther finds herself struggling with the friendship that has developed between her husband Sasha (Timothy Simmons) and single podcaster Morgan (Justin Lupe). But viewers can expect to meet an all-new Esther in season two. “Esther…realized that everyone else was having fun but herself,” Tone told Tudam. “She was like… ‘I’m going to have a good time too.'”
In real life, Torn is dating writer, actor, and director Joe Gillette. Here’s what you need to know about their romance.
Joe Gillette is multi-hyphenate.
Like Tone, Gillette has been working in the entertainment industry for more than a decade. As a writer, director, and producer, Gillette has produced several short films, including the award-winning “The Music Store.” His acting roles include appearances on Black-ish, Silicon Valley, 9-1-1, Shrinking, and more. Celebrating his one guest appearance in December 2022, Gillette joked, “I love being back on[CSI: Vegas]and I’m happy that it’s still as spooky as ever.”
Gillette appeared as the character Gabe in No One Wanted This Season 2, Episode 5, and Torn praised Gabe in an interview with InStyle. “Everyone’s in love,” Torn said of the fact that many of the cast members’ partners will appear in the show’s second season. (That includes Brody’s wife, Leighton Meester.) Noting that Lupe’s husband, Tyson Mason, also has a cameo on the show, Torn made sure to point out that her “real-life boyfriend of four years, Joe Gillette,” also appears on screen.
In February 2025, Gillette shared the SAG Awards carousel on Instagram, captioning it, “I really, really love actors. Thank you @sagaftra for everything you do to cheer us up. What a great night. Best date with a lead — @jackietohn.” His caption continued: “Eating sliders in the same room as Ralph Fiennes isn’t crazy. Get it?”
While promoting his short film Under, Gillette talked about how much he aspired to work in Hollywood. In October 2023, he wrote on Instagram, “I’m so lucky to be able to create something with my friends.” “That’s all I want to do… It’s hard to make movies! I love movies!”
Gillette regularly celebrates his girlfriend online.
“Glow” actress Tone and her boyfriend, a writer and director, have been dating since late 2021, People magazine reported. Gillette isn’t shy about sharing her feelings about tone on the internet. For example, in August 2023, the actor shared a few photos on Instagram with the caption: “Okkuk, effortlessly the birthday girl again. I’m so lucky to be able to love you and grab your ass. That’s amazing. Happy birthday, Baba.” The year before, Gillette celebrated his girlfriend’s special day by writing, “You’re a special angel from heaven and everyone knows it and everyone talks about it. Personally? I think you’re the funniest, best, coldest fox. Happy birthday @jackietohn.”
Tone often returns the favor and always makes it clear how important Gillette is to her. “Today is the birthday of the most special person!” the actress wrote in July 2022. “Happy Birthday @JoeGuillette I can’t wait to wish you the best birthday, not just today but on other days you least expect it.” A year later, Tone shared another sweet post about her boyfriend. “Today we celebrate the birth of this absolute fox,” she explained. “Listen, we love each other, we support each other, we talk to each other (so much), we laugh at each other. Oh, what a discovery. I love you @JoeGillette.”
Gillette paid tribute to her late dog Harry on Instagram.
In April 2024, Gillette paid tribute to her beloved dog Harry. Harry “died suddenly two and a half months before his fourth birthday.” Gillette shared photos and video clips of the adorable pup on Instagram, writing: “It’s not right, it’s not fair and I just haven’t had enough time with my best friend.” “We rescued Harry in August 2020 when he was 8 weeks old. They said, ‘Get a puppy, he’ll love it.’ He turned my world upside down. Within three days I had a complete mental breakdown. I was reminded of the responsibility and promise I had made to this innocent baby, and I was scared of ruining it.”
Ultimately, adopting Harry was a life-changing experience, with Gillette explaining, “He didn’t open this new secret door in my heart. He took over the entire place.” About a year before his death, Harry was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy. “Basically his heart was too big,” Gillette explained. “And he was weak. He was scared for a while, but we immediately gave him medication.”
The short film director wrote in a tribute: “I miss the noise, the chaos and the life you brought into each room. Oh my sweet child. Thank you. I love you. See you forever in the sunshine.”
Gillette and Tone live together in Los Angeles.
Both Mr. Tone and Mr. Gillette have disclosed details of their living situations. In October 2025, Thone told the Wall Street Journal, “I live in Glendale, California, with actor/writer/director Joe Gillette. I moved into a contemporary-style home in 2021 and Joe moved in two years later.” Sharing details about her home, Tone continued, “I love that it’s private, quiet and 20 minutes from everywhere. Best of all, it has so much natural light that I don’t turn on any light fixtures until after the sun goes down.”
Gillette paid tribute to her beloved dog on Instagram, revealing that she had been “spending more time at Jackie’s house” since Harry became ill. “He loved it here,” the actor said. “He loved Jackie and (Jackie’s dog) Glenn. He loved having company. He loved the space. He loved being able to go outside and lie in the sun. We moved.”
He has a passion for photography and Hanson.
In addition to writing, directing, and producing short films, Gillette is also an avid photographer and regularly shares his work on Instagram. In December 2022, he posted a merry-go-round of snaps that included a photo of Torn, revealing in the post that he used “my grandfather’s 1959 Nikon F,” which “broke my heart.”
Gillette elaborated, “When I think about everything he saw, everything he wanted to photograph right away…and here I am, almost 64 years later, with the same camera, looking through the same viewfinder, closing one eye and hoping for the best.” Tone, who is clearly a fan of her partner’s work, commented on the post: “Caption and photo = perfect.”
In December 2023, Gillette revealed an unexpected truth about herself in an Instagram post. “He loves the band Hanson.” Posting a collection of photos, many of which featured Torn, he wrote, “When I was in 6th grade, I was so obsessed with the Hansons that I drew their insignia (Wightout) on my backpack. One day another kid pointed and said, ‘…is that Hanson?'” And it turns out he doesn’t think they’re cool. ”
Gillette continued, “I said, ‘…no.'” And when he walked away, I scribbled on it. I still regret it. I love Hanson. I loved them then, and I love them now. I can’t say for sure, but I think the people in these photos are also depressed about Han Sung. ” Perhaps Torn also appreciates the Hanson brothers’ musical style.
