Aubrey Plaza’s partner Christopher Abbott has been in the spotlight following news that he is expecting a baby with the pregnant Parks and Recreation alum.
The 40-year-old actor made his Off-Broadway debut in 2008 and has since appeared in several successful films and TV shows. Three years later, he moved into Hollywood.
But even though Abbott has been a successful actor for nearly two decades, he is not as famous as Plaza.
Amid news of Christopher Abbott and Aubrey Plaza’s pregnancy, here’s everything you need to know about Christopher Abbott.
he was born in connecticut
Born Christopher Jacob Abbott in Greenwich, Connecticut in February 1986, the actor has Italian roots on his mother’s side and Caribbean roots on his father’s side.
He grew up in Stamford and attended Norwalk Community College after high school.
Abbott eventually dropped out of Norwalk Community College and moved to New York City in 2006 to study acting at HB Studios.
He started off-Broadway before moving into television and film
Abbott’s acting career began off-Broadway in 2008 with “Good Boys and True” and “Mouth to Mouth,” followed by “That Face” in 2010.
He also appeared in an episode of the comedy series “Nurse Jackie” in Season 1 in 2009 and “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” in Season 9 in 2010.
The actor made his feature film debut in the 2011 thriller Martha Marcy May Marine, and made his Broadway debut the same year in The House of Blue Leaves, starring Ben Stiller.
His breakout role was in 2012’s “Girls.”
Despite having been an actor on and off screen for five years, Abbott’s big break came in 2012 when he was cast as Charlie on Leah Dunham’s hit HBO show Girls.
Abbott played the boyfriend of Allison Williams’ character, but left the series after season two in 2013.
“The world that Lena wrote was very real, especially in New York,” Abbott told The New York Times in 2013 about his decision to leave the show. “But on a personal level, it didn’t really resonate with me that much.”
He continued, “It’s not that I only like playing roles that I know to a T, but there’s satisfaction in playing roles that I really relate to the character.”
However, Abbott returned to Girls in 2016 in the critically acclaimed episode “The Panic in Central Park.”
He started working at Plaza in 2020
After leaving Girls, Abbott appeared in several films, including A Most Violent Year (2014), It Comes at Night (2017), Kraven the Hunter (2024), and Ang Lee’s Testament (2025).
He returned to television in 2023 with the Apple TV+ series “The Crowded Room” alongside Tom Holland and Amanda Seyfried.
However, Abbott also began working with Plaza after leaving “Girls.”
The pair reportedly met while filming the 2020 psychological drama Black Bear and later reunited on the Off-Broadway play Danny and the Deep Blue Sea, which ran from October 2023 to January 2024.
“He cares, but he’s also someone who doesn’t care. That’s the perfect recipe for me as a scene partner,” Plaza said of Abbott in a September 2023 New York Times interview on “Danny and the Deep Blue Sea.”
She added, “It’s fun, it’s good, and it’s safe. I like to throw things out of windows, laugh, and goof around, but I like not to take myself too seriously. That combo is hard to find.”
As for Abbott, he told the media that neither he nor Plaza is “afraid to be ugly and weird and strange.”
He and Ms. Plaza first became romantically involved in July 2025.
Abbott and the “Honey, Don’t!” star were first rumored to be together in July 2025 after fans claimed they were spotted getting cozy at a berry farm outside New York City.
Romance speculation continued in November 2025, when photos of the two enjoying a Knicks game together were posted on social media.
And in February of this year, Abbott and Plaza were photographed together during Paris Fashion Week.
He and Plaza are expecting a baby together
People reported in April 2026 that Abbott and Plaza were expecting a baby together.
“After an emotional year, this was a wonderful surprise,” a source told the magazine. “They feel very blessed.”
News of the pregnancy comes months after Plaza mourned the loss of her late husband, Jeff Baena, who died by suicide in January 2025.
The “White Lotus” alum and Baena married in 2021, but separated four months before the director’s death.
