Baker Mayfield isn’t just an NFL quarterback, he’s also the husband of wife Emily Wilkinson.

According to ESPN, the two first met in 2017 through mutual friends. Six months later, in July 2019, the two got engaged and got married. Mayfield and Wilkinson welcomed their first child, daughter Koba Jade Mayfield, in April 2024. In November 2025, the couple announced that they were pregnant with their second child.

NFL quarterbacks have had hectic careers. The former Cleveland Browns player was drafted No. 1 overall by the team in 2018 and was traded to the Carolina Panthers in July 2022 after the Browns acquired Deshaun Watson to fill the starting quarterback position.

Friends of Mayfield and Wilkinson knew the pair were perfect for each other and had been trying to set them up for months. But, the couple told Bride, it was a chance encounter over FaceTime that ultimately brought them together.

When Mayfield was a quarterback at the University of Oklahoma, he was FaceTiming his brother after a game when he noticed an unfamiliar face among the people who had gathered to watch him play.

“He put two and two together and realized I was the girl his friend had been trying to set him up with all along!” Wilkinson explained.

She initially thought Mayfield was a “typical Playboy athlete.”

After realizing who Wilkinson was, Mayfield tried to get her attention. The player repeatedly followed and unfollowed her on Instagram in order to catch her eye.

A few months later, Mayfield invited Wilkinson to come watch him play in the Rose Bowl. “I thought he would be the typical Playboy athlete,” she later told ESPN.

However, Wilkinson agreed to have lunch with him the day before the Rose Bowl, but she expected him to talk only about the much more important game. Instead, Mayfield surprised her with questions about her life and future plans.

After just three days, the two hit it off so much that Mayfield moved in with Wilkinson and her siblings in Los Angeles. “We haven’t really been apart since then,” Mayfield told Brides. “It was love at first sight!”
