Whether #MomTok survives or not, at least we know Whitney will.
Whitney Leavitt, best known for starring in Hulu’s reality series “The Secret Life of Mormon Mrs.”, has made her Broadway debut. She will play Roxie Hart in “Chicago” at the Ambassador Theater for six weeks from February 2nd to March 15th.
The news comes shortly after Leavitt made it to the semifinals of Season 34 of Dancing with the Stars. Her appearance on the ABC dance series was hotly debated, with many considering her to be the most accomplished contestant and speculating that fans had voted against her due to Season 3 of Mormon Wives being released on November 13. Despite losing, she and partner Mark Ballas recorded a version of the freestyle dance they had hoped to perform in the finale, set to a mashup of Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” and the theme song from “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.” A recording of their dance was released alongside a lengthy interview on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast, recorded in collaboration with ABC.
Levitt has long been unabashed about his ambitions as a performer. She controversially sat out the first half of Season 3 of Mormon Housewives, but revealed that she only returned to the series for the chance to audition for Dancing with the Stars, and also admitted that she tried to negotiate a role in a scripted series in exchange for an appearance on Housewives.
“Chicago” is the longest-running American musical in Broadway history. The book was written by Fred Ebb and Bob Diane, with music by John Kander and lyrics by Ebb. Kate Baldwin currently plays Roxy. The cast also includes Sophie Carmen-Jones as Velma Kelly, Tamu Mutu as Billy Flynn, Alex Newell as Matron “Mama” Morton, Raymond Boxhall as Amos Hart, and R. Rowe as Mary Sunshine.
