Kevin Federline’s sons don’t hold his memoir against him.
Britney Spears’ ex-husband has “additionally” claimed that Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, “approved” him publishing bombshell statements he “thought they knew” about Britney Spears’ mother.
“My kids are old enough to understand and approve of what I’m doing,” the former backup dancer, 47, told the outlet on Thursday while defending the controversial release.
“I don’t want my kids to have to live their own lives and explain who I am,” he explained. “I say that in the book. I don’t want them talking about things they haven’t experienced or can’t remember.”
Federline added: “Everyone has a right to speak out…especially after they have had enough (time) to reflect on it with compassion and understanding.”
“For the past 20 years, my story has been told through a different lens, and I felt it was important for me to finally come out and tell my story,” he continued.
Federline’s memoir, published on October 21, made headlines for its descriptions of her short-lived marriage to Spears and the singer’s parenting.
The former couple married in October 2004 and welcomed Sean Preston and Jaden in September 2005 and September 2006, respectively.
Spears filed for divorce when her youngest child was a toddler, and the marriage was legally dissolved in July 2007.
Federline claims their relationship broke down in November 2006 when he walked up to Spears “smoking a fat coke.” Later, when Federline demanded that he not breastfeed their sons, Federline allegedly threw a drink in his face.
He claims their romance was “never the same” after the Princess of Pop allegedly “slapped” him in the face during an “assault”.
Other bombshell statements made by Federline include that Spears hit her eldest son, forced her younger son to take a bath with her and wished they would both die.
Spears’ representatives did not directly address each of the allegations, but a spokesperson on Wednesday accused Federline of “benefiting” from his ex-wife.
On the same day, the Grammy winner denounced the memoir as a book of “white lies.”
On Thursday, she called Federline “horrible” for appearing to “cry” during a “compelling” interview, tweeting that his actions “shocked[her]heart.”
The “Crossroads” star said, “If you truly love someone, you don’t help them by humiliating them.”
